    "MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Several months of collaborative police work targeting the drug epidemic in the Eastern Panhandle culminated in warrants being issued for 79 people, including more than 25 who had been arrested by Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

    Police began making arrests about 4 a.m. on Friday as part of the coordinated effort that continued into the afternoon, said Sheriff Curtis Keller, who credited the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force with spearheading the operation........


    By making the arrests all at once, Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty said they hope to have a greater impact on disrupting drug-trafficking in the community.

    "If you (take one person out) at a time ... you don't have that big of an impact," said Dougherty, who credited the assistance of the Ranson Police Department in making arrests Friday in Jefferson County.

    The following suspects had been arrested as of 2 p.m.:

    • Kenneth M. Alger of Ranson, W.Va., on two counts of distribution of a controlled substance.

    • Craig M. Ammons, 25, of Falling Waters, W.Va., on single counts of transporting controlled substance into jail and conspiracy to transport controlled substance into jail.

    • Ranil D. Baddeliyange of no fixed address on one count of distribution of heroin

    • Jacques C. Branson, 46, of Falling Waters on one count of possession of marijuana in jail.

    • Devonne J. Cooper, 29, of Charles Town, W.Va., on one count of possession of incendiary device in jail.

    • Tronda D. Condit, 20, of Martinsburg on five counts of possession with the intent to deliver heroin and one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin.

    • Joshua E. Cupp, 30, no address listed, on three counts of possession of a banned substance in jail.

    • Irron L. Daye, 39, of Martinsburg on one count of distribution of heroin.

    • Eric E. Fisher, 35, of Martinsburg on one count of delivery of crack cocaine.

    • Heather L. Grimm, 27, of Martinsburg on one count of delivery of heroin.

    • Melinda Hovermale, 43, of Inwood, W.Va., on one count of transporting a controlled substance into state.

    • Ryan K. Jackson, 29, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., on two counts of transporting a controlled substance into jail, two counts of possession of a controlled substance in jail and distribution of marijuana.

    • Quincey Jackson of Ranson on one count of possession of a controlled substance.

    • Silas W. Kerns, 31, of Martinsburg with delivery of heroin.

    • Bruce A. McCullough, Jr., 25, of Martinsburg on two counts of conspiracy and single counts of distribution of heroin and possession of heroin in jail.
