In keeping with the dog issue, we would love to have a little tiny itsy bitsy lap dog......something of the teacup variety.

As for adoption, we went to a few of the places to see what we could find. We did find one....results?

Filled out 8 forms
Was asked if we had a fenced in yard, we affirmed we did.
asked what our income was.....ok no prob.....100k +
were we happily married and asked for a copy of our marriage license. HUH???????
do we have kids.....yes but not living with us....all grown up and gone.
They wanted to visit our home to see the environment!!!!! then visit each month for 3 consecutive months after that.

Cost.....289.00! but that included spading/neutoring and worming.

Partner......keep your dogs, I'll add a tad more and get a dog with papers!

Sheesh, they don't want to let you adopt, they are in it for the bucks too.

OMG! we have an AKC registered (all the papers and pedigree!) 6lb toy poodle that we got for $200, which included all shots up to date when we bought him at 12 weeks old.

Hey Doc

What you described sure sounds absurd!!

However, congratulations to you on saving a "tiny, Itsy, bitsy" creature of God. The UNCONDITIONAL love that you will receive will be worth many, many, many, many times more than the $289 with which you parted.

Got a name yet?

How about TIBS......Tiny, Itsy, Bitsy....oh you can figure it out.

Good Luck.....Bob

Doc that is the going price. If you get a dog from a good breeder that does all the testing your looking at $1,200.00 to $1,600.00 for a PET quality dog. I got my first from what I believe now was a BYB/puppymill. Bad move, I shopped by price and ended up putting $ for her at the vets.

Doc,
I have a mutt that I got by word of mouth, that "this guy had some free puppies". Ugliest thing you've ever seen. She's been my families best friend for 10 years now. I couldn't buy a better dog for $10,000.

I'm a little nervouse to ask Doc, but what happened to Cody? I haven't seen him recently and now you're looking for another dog. I hope everything is ok with him.

Holly, cody is fine right here at home. Put a fence up a couple weeks ago and a doggy door for him. What happened is that someone decided to send me a note saying that they would kill him if they caught him running around again. We treasure him since we had him from a puppy. But we would still like to get a tiny mutt for a lap dog.

THanks for asking

Thank goodness!! He's such a sweetie. I'll miss walking with him. These days its only me and my own dogs. I'm glad to know he's safe.

Doc-
It's been 5 years since I adopted Elly from the shelter in Montgomery Co MD, but at the time the requirements were:
Lots of paperwork
A family visit by all members of the household to the shelter to interact with the dog
A fenced yard
A home visit (just one)
A $60 fee that included a coupon for spaying/neutering at a local vet.

Don't know what the price is now, but the fact that the shelters check you out seems to be standard.
Good luck with your search.

Doc-The rumor around the block is that you found him tied up with a note attached...is that true? Not that the note isn't bad enough, but then to tie him up! How sad-what ever happened to talking with your neighbors?!

doc, I got my dog, a mutt from BRIGGS out on 340. We've had him for a year now and i wouldn't trade him for anything. He cost 90.00 they want to meet everyone in the family including any pets and then they bring him to your home with some food and pills for heartworm and flea medicine. I don't have a fenced yard but that didn't matter as long as we showed that we were not going to keep him chained. [8D]

Thanks KC
No, I haven't heard anything. while at McKinny's getting my truck breaks done, there was a lady that lives at gate 1 that said she has a bunch of dogs that are all full blooded Daschunds that she was giving away due to personnal problems. the next day we went and got a real nice one that was house broken, full grown at 9 lbs. We love her and Cody is getting along just great altho he was a bit jealous at first.

Thanks again

Glad to hear you found a poochie.
Sorry things didn't work out with Carole...I am going to see her in a few days, I am going to mention this whole thing to her, I am almost positive she was ignoring everything.
That's just rude! [:p]
Congrats again. :D
