greetings all
well i will try to make this as short as possible.
Ranger...pictured below...has always been one of our favorite cats. We moved here about a month ago and started noticing he was losing weight a couple weeks ago. Now he has lost a substantial amount of weight, has very runny and small bowel movements, barely eats, and generally speaking is very fatigued all the time. This is not like him.
I went to PetCo to get our cat food last week...shelves were bare...so when I went to Frederick I stopped by PetSmart and same thing there. Shelves bare. So I bought a different variety of Nutro and called it a day.
Ranger has not imnproved, but he has steadily declined in the past 48 hours. So I decided to check on the Nutro website...and sure enough RECALL MAY 21. symptoms included...reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. Great.
the real mind blower-they claim NO cats have been affected. However, every other website I have checked has numerous complaints...some with sick cats, others have lost their cats in the past couple weeks.
I dearly hope we are able to nurse Ranger back to health.
Since we are new to the area I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction of a good vet but also for a good cost. I used to work for a vet and miss that job! thanks for your help in advance.

BP, there's several vets in the area and folks can be quite vehement about who they take their critters too. If you do a search on Vets, I think you'll find alot of info.

Generally, it seems Hillside gets the most positive votes overall from folks on the board, although I go to Countryside.

So sorry to hear about your beautiful cat. Hope he is better soon. As for a vet, most places mentioned by the folks on the mountain are Hillside, Countryside, and a place in Purcellville, the name escapes me at the moment. I take my cat to Hillside and have been very happy with their service/prices. http://www.hillsidevet.vetsuite.com/Templates/GridCritters.aspx

Hillside Veterinary Hospital has the recall information posted right at their front desk, so they are obviously aware of the associated problems. Most everyone has good reviews of the place. Their phone # is 304-728-2203.

We are a Siamese cat family too. We take our cats to:

Jefferson Animal Hospital (Dr. Allara)

Charles Town, WV 25414

His prices are very reasonable, he loves the animals and is very friendly.

Hillside was booked as of yesterday until next Tuesday!
so..i have changed Ranger to holistic medicine that has done wonders for us in the past...and he is eating small amounts through the day and even climbed the stairs today and layed in the bed! he usually sleeps with us...and hasnt for about a week now...so for him to make it upstairs to the bed is a huge step. if he doesnt start drinking and eating like normal though i will end up taking him in.

Ain't that the truth! He's been very good to us and our critters over the years (since the 80's!).

We began taking our cats to him 10 years ago, which was when B and I adopted our first pet together, because B's grandparents have taken their cats to Dr. Allara for many, many years.

Apparently it's Cat AND Dog food that's being recalled. Pass the word.

This stuff really pisses me off..

its a shame we cannot trust our animals to anyone these days~ my husband and i used to make all of our animals fresh food daily...but now with so much going on we cannot.
Ranger passed away last Friday. I am unsure what the cause was. He spent a few nights at the vet in an incubator...where they could not figure out what was going on. When i picked him up, paid an arm and a leg, he came home, laid on his orange couch, and passed away with us by his side.
The mountain now has 3 of my babies....and we have only been here a month and a half~im getting worried.
Mr Punkin and Gardenia are still missing. Keep your eyes out for them please.
