View Full Version : Boris is coming!
Hey folks!
My parents rescued and quarantined a beautiful Russian Blue mix male cat.
He has been living in their garage for 3 weeks (obviously with fans, food, litter etc), appears in great health, and is an absolute sweetheart :)
He originally showed up in their neighborhood (in Va.) about a month ago. Because of his sweet nature (and large size) the neighborhood kids started playing with him, and then the "I hate animals" person on the street threatened to call the pound.
So my parents decided to put up 'found cat' signs and check with local shelters. No response. So they're giving him to my brother and I. We've decided on the name Boris. Seems to fit him.
Anyway tonight I'm driving out there to take him for his second vet visit for some more shots. On Friday he's coming home with me...yay!!! :)
I'll be putting some Frontline on him of course, and we'll have to be a bit careful introducing him to Dragon, but I gotta tell you guys I'm very excited! :)

There is this ancient secret to make cats get along.
I do this, and it's very effective. Open a can of tuna, and pour the juice from the can onto the back of the neck of BOTH cats.
LOL wouldn't cannibalism be the result?
Vet appointment went fine. Clean bill of health
On Friday I'll be bringing Boris home. All 15 pounds of him. This is one big cat! The veterinarian said he's one of the strongest cats she's ever seen. His temperament however is much like a teddy bear. I really don't foresee any problems with him and Dragon.
Like Dragon he'll be a strictly indoor cat of course.

I had a Russian Wolfhound named Boris when I was younger. Love the name!l;)

That is a great story, a great name, and a smart cat. Good luck with the integration. We've had some hairy (furry?) ones in the past, and others that went so smoothly it was hardly even noticeable, esp. with our recent cats. It all depends on the cats. You'll figure it out - if one needs space, give him the space, etc. Pet Management! And congrats! Don't forget to post a photo.
Brought Boris home last night, and well his introduction to Dragon was certainly as expected...Dragon was none too pleased.
Today was much better, though Dragon is still pissed LOL.
Otherwise Boris absolutely loves his new home :) I'll post pics soon...As I said he is indeed a massive cat!
Boris is so happy to have a home with us. He definitely had abandonment issues, but seems to realize now that he's in a permanent and loving home.
He completely submits to Dragon whenever she asserts herself, despite being 15 years younger and about 10 pounds heavier than her. Funny how cats seem to respect their elders.
He adds lot's of life to this little house and I couldn't be happier to have him.
Thanks Marty and everyone else who responded :) My brother took some pics of him today and I'll have them up here soon.

Good update! I'm glad hierarchy has been sorted out already, makes things easier.
The 5 cats who joined us in the past year worked it all out very efficiently, but they kept their findings private. We're really not certain who the alpha cat is anymore - sometimes we think it's one, then we think it's another. But they all get along really well. Perhaps if Cherokee our terrier mix weren't trying to boss the whole household around, it would be more clear. :)
Well anyway, Boris clearly is in the right place, thank goodness. Can't wait to see the pics.

I'm so glad he's got a good home! Pics, dude, Pics!
Pics are a comin'...I promise :)
Ok my brother, known here as Teek Oblique, will put up some pics of Boris tonight when he gets home. Or tomorrow at the latest.
This cat is quite the character! In the month we've had him he has escaped twice from the screen porch. We had to chase him all over the neighbors lawn, but thankfully we captured him both times.
We now have new rules for the house and visitors in an attempt to keep him inside.
Despite the incredible frustration & anxiety he caused when he got out, he's a real sweetheart; full of youthful energy and playfulness. Even Dragon is beginning to warm up to him (ever so slightly :) )
Here's Boris in his "turkey pose" :) Sorry for the quality...more to come.
