Hello I just purchased a home on Shannondoah River Dr and will be moving into the area on Monday.

I came across this forum in research about the area and its nieghbors.

Where is a good place to meet people around here in Harpers Ferry? Where can a single guy find a good place to get a drink at etc...

Hope to see you around.

-Ron

Welcome, Ronald.

If you want to meet "people". well this site provides plenty of opportunities for that.

If you want to meet attractive single, sane women, I hope you have a car, because they all seem to be in either Maryland or Virginia. :p

And The Pub in Bolivar is a good place to get a drink, or Torlones at the top of Route 9 just before VA if you're not that fussy.

Nanuk makes it sound dire round these parts. BUT depending to whom you want to acquaintance- and not knowing your proclivities, there's many of the same choices as in other areas. Nanuk is on target with his assessment of meeting a wide range of peeps right here on the forums. We have F2F gathering often-A humongous one next Saturday- Check he calendar, upcoming events and announcements.

There is also a bevy of brainy beauties hangin' out in Shepherdstown if your interested in college students, young AND older. And there are the usual places yo mamma told you about like church socials, political groups, environmental activities and other clubs/organizations.

But my pal N. is also correct that if you want to scout the singles scene, the 'burbs offer a much wider selection. I'm afraid I'm long past that scene. If you're near my age, you might join the Tri-State Walker competition

Ron, Welcome to the mountainous region! You can meet a lot of wonderful people right here on the forum. No need to leave the comfort of your home! Best place to get a drink? One of the many get togethers hosted by forum members!

Welcome to the mountain Ron! You will meet so many wonderful people, especially the ones on the forum.

The pub in Bolivar is a great place to go for a drink or few. But anyways, enjoy the mountain.

Greetings Ron!

My fave places to grab a cold one are the Turf Lounge beside the racetrack and the "new" Vista Pub at the Hotel on 340.

The Vista has a good happy hour and yummy munchies i.e. baked spaghetti for free apps! You can't beat that.

Woohoo and welcome to the mountain!!! :)

Thank you for the great replies! I shall take all your suggestions and try some out.

I am purchasing the Shroder family residence where Mary T Schroder used to live. I see a lot of her pictures listed here on the site and hope to restore the landscaping to the former standard she had set for it.

Welcome Ronald. I can't advise you on meeting singles (my wife doesn't approve of me dating) but there's lots of great places to drink. Check out Shepherdstown or any of the wineries in Virginia.

Ahhh.. that 'splains it. I noticed what looked like someone moving in over at Shroder's, the other day... but thought I still saw the 'for sale' sign up. We live just down the road off of Cedar Creek. If you get around on two-wheels.. we can show you some nice roads to ride.

Welcome! If you're looking for a low-key but classy joint for a drink, Dish in Charles Town is a good place to hit. They support our resident coffee roaster as well as local breweries.

. . how about a singles pot luck gathering, (BBQ, party, drinks, hike, ask me in private for other ideas.) Upcomming events, political and community activism, hiking, mountain biking, and yoga are good ways to meet single women in the neighborhood.
