The trip on Sunday has been cancelled for lack of interest. Actually the participants today are pooped. Please excuse any inconvenience. Take a stroll into the park on your own and explore our little secret.

I'd like to schedule another trip to Shannondale Springs either the 11th or 18th of March- If we don't have the arctic cold we experienced on Feb. 19th. If it's a particularly dandy weekend, we're not going to be averse to working both Sat. & Sun.

I would be delighted to introduce more of you guys to the place. It really is as much fun as those photos show and we might be able to sit still long enough to talk about the history of the old resort. You guys can let me know if you'll be able to participate. We'll shoot for the 11th & 12th with the bad weather dates the following weekend.

Although the following link relates somewhat to our February 19th visit, the same general criteria apply for what to bring, when and where to meet and also connects to the photos that Chip took of our fun time-LOOKHERE (http://www.shannondale.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1812)

We'd like to have a couple PU Trucks and some AWD vehicles. There should be plenty of clearance on the sides to protect the paint jobs. If not, We'll have the gear to make room!!

Golly, maybe we can get some of the youngsters to accompany their Mom's or Dad's

I'd love to do this - what day are you thinking?

Additionally, why do we need the 4X4's?

Also, are you serious about the whole clearance thing? My 4X4 SUV would not appreciate being scratched, and I would have to set up an appointment with Dr. Kervorkian if I ruint my truck. Is 4X4 neccesary(?), I have a RWD SUV that happens to be a convertible. I think it would be fun, but not-so-fun if we get stuck.

Most definately I am interested. I was actually thinking of going there this weekend regardless. My sister is also infatuated with this area - so she'd have to derive nothing but total enjoyment from this. And the children need a place to run so they can sleep and sleep and sleep and sleep.

I don't think the side clearance will be a problem, C2C. And we'll have enough loppers to remove ant branches or brush that would scratch. The real concern will be the clearance underneath which is why we're suggesting a 4X4 or a pickup. As long as the kids are supervised, there shouldn't be any problem and there also should be plenty for them to do to to expend their energy. You shouldn't get stuck as it's been pretty dry. The access-ways are well packed. We're meeting Saturday around 10:30 to drive back around 11:00. Follow the link for more info.

Oh - do we even have to drive? The thing is - There would be 7 of us, and the Mercedes seats 5 and we can put 2 kids in the back if needed. Same thing with the convertible SUV - only difference being that it's much smaller. I don't really want to bring 2 vehicles because that takes away from the fun.

We'd actually prefer to hike, and possibly bring my love dog.

Also, is this a tour, or a cleanup project? I'm not thinking that the kids would be cooperative if we're busy doing something else.

I have a Subarau AWD wagon and it was scraping bottom in a few places. You need clearance more than traction. There are also branches that fall on the road, which you may chose to drive over. It is a couple of miles back to the site so you will want to drive or ride back (but Willis may disagree; I'm thinking of the children here).

Don't take a nice car or a classic car back there. You could get scrapes, dings or worse. Remember that a full load of people makes the car sit lower on the road and you will bottom out even more.

Oh. Apparantly - the convertible is not going to be available.

All I have is my luxury SUV - so we may as well walk because I'll be driving slow enough...

Ground clearance is not an issue. I've cleared cinder blocks in that truck. Damage to the finish is multiple issues that I simply cannot cancel my subscription to.

It's a good walk but I don't necessarily agree with Chip- The map HERE (http://www.shannondaleclubalumni.org/FOSSpages/7.htm) shows the walk along the river(from point B to where the gate has been relocated) along the dotted line to the wee cleared space at the top of the curve(the Bathhouse) to not be an extraordinary hike for the fit(of body-Don't know about mind). Maybe a tiny bit short of a mile but with the river at your side for a good ways and other beautiful scenery. The roadway is virtually level. I'd consider this trip an exploratory one for you and your gang- If you want to participate in cleanup, fine, but it's not required.

Oh - I'm always glad to help, but i'm not putting an abandoned transmission in my truck ;)
