This guy must have something special to be stalked by a doctor...either that or she was ugly.

And "someone down the street said they thought they heard someone yelling quietly for help." But the sound was dismissed as coming from kids playing in a nearby pool, KBAK reported.
...
Kotarac's family told KBAK they are horrified to think she could have spent several days lodged in the flue.Whoopsie...
It took authorities five hours to dismantle the chimney and flue from the exterior of the home enough to remove Kotarac's body, authorities said. Now I gotta wonder who pays for that. I mean, what insurance company is going to pick up that tab, not to mention the repair bill. Oh--and getting that smell out of the house? That's not cheap, either. I guess in the end, she showed him, didn't she?

I would not be surprised if there is more to this than has yet come out. It just doesn't add up.

""She made an unbelievable error in judgment and nobody understands why, and unfortunately she's passed away," Moodie told The Associated Press. "She had her issues - she had her demons - but I never lost my respect for her."
Very human of him.
"Moodie, who runs an engineering consulting firm, said Kotarac was a superb internist who often provided service and medication free of charge to her patients."
And nice of him to put a human face on her, as well.

Obviously he hasn't gotten the bill for the new chimney yet.

I'm going to guess that this would be handled the same as a homicide cleanup. Who pays for those? They can hire those guys that were on Mythbusters trying to clean up the dead-pig Corvette.
Hopefully the smell issue is not as bad as it could be since the actual body was stuck in a chimney instead of decomposing on the floor. Remove the chimney and maybe the carpet around the fireplace and that should take care of any actual remains, after which the lingering smell should be easier to deal with.
Do people get insurance payout to compensate for lost market value of a home somebody died unnaturally in?

Oh, I know a husband and wife who run a "crime scene clean up" company and do a great job getting blood and the death smell out of a house, but they ain't cheap. Insurance usually does pay for that, though, or if the property's going to be resold, a deal is often worked out with the realtor. As to lost market value? I doubt that they'll pay for that since it's speculative at best.
I'm sure there's a lesson to be learned here somewhere. If you discover a dead person in your chimney, don't call the police until you've managed to get it out yourself. Because they won't have any hesitation to just demolish your house to get at the body.

From reading it sounds like the chimney had to be demolished anyway just to get the body out intact. Not to mention attempting to do so yourself is potentially disturbing a crime scene. And who wants to handle their loved one's decomposing body??
