Has there been any change in the tax status of the library? Particularly as it relates to tax deductability of donations?

The Community Center is a 501C4 non profit, so your contributions to the Library would not be tax deductible.

Lazer,

We may very well decide to switch to a C3 later this year, but not in the short term. The success of Center activities makes it possible that people may be interested in bequests or other types of planned giving in the future, and these would rely heavily on C3 status.

The original decision to go with a 501C4 "Community Improvement Association" was to address the concern of the Diocese regarding any possible conflict between the Chuch as the property owner, the SAMCCP - a secular non profit, and the generous funds that we have received in the way of grants from the Jefferson County Commission. As a Community Improvement Association, with non deductible donations from the public, there is no question as to the propriety of tax payer funds supporting the Community Center.

We will be very careful to investigate this issue in the coming year and I will touch base with you as we progress.

In the interim, would you consider a tax deductible contribution to Shannondale.org? They support many of the same programs that SAMCCP does, although in a different way.
