So...would it be "proper"/ acceptable....for a child to give his /her, teacher a BD gift...or is this considered sucking up.... not speaking about a group gift. Thanks all..
I think what grade group (elementry, middle or high school) they are in might help answer this along with the type of relationship the student has with the teacher and how well they may, or may not be doing in their class or classes.
I think its sucking up, but you always have those type of parents at all levels, because what are you really trying to prove by giving a BD gift? That your child is more thoughtful than all the students that DIDN'T give a gift. JMO.

My son makes gifts for his teachers now and then. THey are usually handmade crafts that he does himself, and not always for a special occasion. He doesn't do it to suck up, he's just always making things for everyone. I think from that perspective it's fine.
Yes I agree, my *daughter* takes the stupidest things in to Mrs. Smith and I just think to myself "oh I know she is really going to want that" but she does its amazing.

Mrs. Smith is just the best teacher!! My son takes stuff in to her from time to time. Just pictures or something he has made. Today he went in to share with her all of his "extra credit" he has been working on at home:)

I think handmade is definitely the way to go unless there is a more personal relationship like the teacher is a family friend. Store-bought birthday gift does seem a little brown-nosey, or at least a little odd unless there is more to it. It just sounds more like an adult or peer relationship than a student/teacher one. At the most I would do a low-value gift card to someplace you know they like along with a homemade card.

How about a Granny Smith apple?
Lottery tickets seem like a great idea as part of the funding goes back into the school system and you can teach your child all about the wonders of being able to get rich quick :-)
New cars, vacations and stuff like that might be pushing some boundries...

Can you believe we would be saying that after the concerns we were having at the beginning of the year with the new grading system and all?
Mrs. Smith just married into that name, she used to be Mrs. Gramp, she is pretty young.

I know!!! I survived this year because of Mrs. Smith! She is so good at communication and has a genuine concern for each of her students. I have never been so thrilled with a teacher. I am really going to miss her at the end of this school year:(
Kelly has pretty much been on autopilot and has been doing fine, she is a good little student and loves school.
