This looks like an excellent way to reuse something you normally throw away, and start to grow some of your own food.

I recall our Mom doing that with carrot tops- not to eat, but to show us and teach her schoolchildren about how plants develop roots and grow. I'm sure she never thought of the butt end of a celery stalk-Pretty nifty and could be done on a deck in a mud bucket.

I wonder if they could tolerate the acidic mountain soil without a 'mud bucket'? One way to find out I guess! :)
