Middle School Supplies

My son is starting 6th grade at HFMS and I was wondering what supplies he'll need. I haven't gotten any kind of list, so I'm not sure what I'll need to get for him. Do the teachers hand out supply lists at the first day of school? We'll have the basics, of course; backpack, pens, pencils, paper, etc. Thanks for any help.

They usually give a list out for each class the first day if not at the orientation.

After several years there with the girls...stick to the basics that you have on the list - include spiral notebooks - one per class - a couple of binders with folders or dividers, and possibly one composition notebook to your list. The teachers will hand out lists on the second day of school. Most of the first day for a rising 6th grader will be spent in the auditorium or gym on orientation kinds of things. They will get their locker assignments on the third day.

I wouldn't jump into buying anything for middle schoolers you will get class lists since they change so much and some teachers are very specific and some not so much but if you just shop the generic lists you may still not have what you need or have too much. And, it ain't cheap when I take three girls.

So what is he going to need for his first day? Just his lunch? Will he need his backpack at all?

Truthfully, I think I only sent mine with a spiral notebook and a pencil and of course their bookbag. But, that just the way I operate and that's not always good but I guess it worked out okay.

That's what I'm thinking. Bookbag with just a few things in it. Oh, and lunch because he hates the school lunches.

In middle school they can have salad and a lot of the kids love that.
