We Love the USA
I received this message from Toni Milbourne who wears at least two hats in the County. She's a Honcho at Parks and Recreation AND a newshound at the Spirit. Definitely a personage of GREAT IMPORTANCE. She says
quote:Willis:
Fireworks and family picnic at Sam Michaels is scheduled for July 1.
(Our rain date is July 2) but it's not going to rain on my
fireworks!!!
Spread the word up there about the fireworks---finally we have them
back in the county after the park service stopped! I've worked very
hard on this project and would appreciate all the attendance we can
get! Gates open at 3 p.m. Saturday!
Toni
So, Let's do it . Toni has gone out on a limb pushing the event and we want a good turnout from the County. I sincerely doubt the feds or anyone up here will be having displays in the near future!!</center>

One of my oddball thoughts- If what TonyB says is true and picnic baskets are encouraged (along with grub from vendors), why not have someone appoint themselves the S&B 4th of July picnic coordinator, find out from ttpams(aka Toni Milbourne) where a good place to "stake out" would be, and arrange to have a mini S&B gathering at the S.M. Farm???
Actually, my post was a quote from Toni's earlier announcement.

Bryan and his dad will be in St. Louis this weekend picking up the rest of our stuff. He won't be traveling back home until sometime Monday.

Yeah, what she said. Think I'll be watching the fireworks over the Arch in STL, but I'd much rather be here.

KemCam2 I take my laptop with me on vacation. Partly to do school work and partly to keep an eye on my neighbors.

Yeah, sorry kem. Unfortunately anddue to contractual liability I always take my laptop with me on vacation. However I madethe mistake of taking it on our honeymoon and since then I have been forbidden to take it ever since. Sorry GG, but you know I'm a workaholic.......

and an alcoholic.
Bummer. I was hoping to go with you to the fireworks display. Oh well.
Make sure your truck that you rent is diesel.

Truck? Rent? Diesel? Alcoholic? City- 99% of our furniture and things have been moved back already so the task only requires taking a PU Truck. The only things left are a TV, tools, two chairs, a computer desk and 28 cases of Natty Light....... cans. [cheers]

Anyway, wish I could be there with the family for fireworks, but I am willing to bet that GG and the munchkin could be talked into attending.

I was a bit disappointed that Bryan was going out of town this weekend because I considered taking Taylor. I'm sure she would like the pretty colors.

As I suspected...
I knew I had something going on!
C's cousin is in town and I do, in fact, have plans for this evening.
I am going to try to be back early enough to go but I am not driving so I don't know if that's gonna happen...However, C may be bringing the kids...?!?
I should really look into getting a daily planner or something, my memory is shot!

Excellent fireworks, good crowd control and traffic management. I think several thousand people attended.
Dogs were NOT allowed past the gates by the way.

I would say those were the best fireworks we have ever seen. (besides Disney World- but those were not free) The show lasted quite some time too.

The firewaorks were fantastic - lasted 20mins - Toni Milburn (Parks & Recs) did a great job on very limited budget....next year will be even better from a sound & enteratainment standpoint.
It was estimated that up to 10K people were there last night - all carparks were full.
Great to see all the families having a great time. Thr Jefferson High group Stix were fun doing a STOMP type routine....the whole day was just great....

we made it to the 340 & flowing springs road interchange just as they began at about 9:10pm. we then drove all the way to the park, had to go to the second lot, found a parking space and still got to see another 20 minutes of fireworks from our van. so ozgirls estimate was a little short. they went on for nearly 1/2 hour and it was AMAZING!!!!
my hubby and i used to go to dc every year to watch them and im tellin ya, if we had the capitol for a backdrop last night, you wouldnt have known you werent in dc. they were that good! i even said out loud at one point, is this jefferson county west virginia??? i was amazed that our little county put on such a big show.
kudos to all who made it possible!

Excellent pics Chip. Unfortunately about the time those were being set off I was somewhere around White Sulphur Springs, WV. No Fireworks that I saw along I-64 untilwe hit Winchester about 1:30am where a bunch of drunk were setting off roman candles aimed into traffic on rt 7.
Hats off to Toni for a job well done!!!
Digital Lighting did a great job, at about 1/2 the price that the US Park Service paid in the past. Check out their services at: http://members.tripod.com/Digital_Lite/photogallery.html
