Mommyof3
07-03-2006, 06:52 PM
July's Book Club will be held on Saturday the 15th at 7pm. We will be at a new location this month. Wormdoc is gracious enough to open her home to our whacky group! You will need to email her for directions. (She is in John Brown Farm) Feel free to bring some wine or a snack to share- but as always this is optional.
(I hear that the Jello Shooters are pretty good at these things- and there should be more this month as well)

Hope that all the regulars can make it and to all of you newer members who have expressed interest.....hopefully you can make it too!

Wormdoc's (Ellen) email address-- [email protected]

[study]ps. I have actually been reading some good books, and I have been to a lot of used book sales- so I will brings some books to swap out if anyone is interested)[study]

I have some new Jello Shooters to make! I found Pina Colada jello(mix with coconut rum) and Margarita jello(mix with tequila and tripple sec)! yum! I also made Orange Cream shooters on the 4th. They were soooooo good! Orange jello and vanilla rum!

Lucky for me - it is usually at my home! And trust me I take total advantage of that! But the others usually switch to water or soda long before they go home, and we also have plenty of food to nibble on too. Otherwise.....they drive very carefully. There is always the offer to stay if needed!

This month will be at Wormdoc's house, so I will not get to have as many shooters as normal!

Wormdoc

Yeah! This time it's my turn to get blotto'd! And no violin lesson afterward to worry about! Weeeeeeee!

I"m planning on attending if i can find a sitter for Logan since Jason has to work. If i can't, would it be a problem if I brought him for a while?

Wormdoc

I don't have a child safe house at all (tons of stuff to pull and ingest as well as a completely psychotic cat, though I can put her in the bedroom), however, if he's a little guy and won't be getting into things that might be dangerous for him, it's fine by me.

I'm planning on coming to my first meeting. Unfortunately, I will have to pass on the jello shooters for a while since I'm pregnant. Only 10 weeks left! Since it is on a Saturday, Bryan will be able to watch Taylor. What time is the meeting? Can you email me directions?

Wormdoc
07-07-2006, 10:22 AM
Woooooo! Counting the days! Congrats!
No worries! There will be non-fermented beverages, too! If you'd like to bring a munchable thing or something, that'd be great but most certainly not mandatory. Directions to my little abode are coming shortly via email.

Wormdoc, he's only 4 months old so he doesn't do too much but sit and smile. he'll probably zonk out around 8:30 anyway. Can you please email directions to your home?

Wormdoc
07-07-2006, 11:41 AM
Oh, he's more than welcome! I hope I didn't sound like a snob or b*tch......just didn't want him injuring himself if he was a 2 year old or something like that.

Directions were sent to your email.

U Guys Sound Like So Much Fun!
My daughter will be at camp and she has been my appendage this summer since I am "temporarily" unemployed, depressed and bored out of my mind!
Shoot me an email with directions too please. I will try to come. God knows I need some "me" time! [email protected]

you didn't sound like either. i just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't go to any trouble doing anything unnecessary to your home for him. Thanks for the directions and we'll see you next weekend.

My first book club meeting was so much fun! Over the past year or so all of my friends have moved away from the area for one reason or another, so I haven't been doing much of anything except for the occasional get-together with the people I work with. I'm glad Bryan and I have gotten involved with the forum and are planning on becoming involved with other community events. I look forward to the next meeting!

What she said. It was really nice being with a group of warm, joyful women from various backgrounds and experiences. I really enjoyed myself and want to thank Wormie for hosting in her beautiful home. I'm also looking forward to the next get-together.

Mommyof3
07-16-2006, 12:19 PM
It was great meeting you both last night. And thanks so much to Wormie for hosting! I hope you guys didn't get to wild after we left!

(and where we went to......boy oh boy, now I know why I don't do bars anymore!!!!! we will have to save that story for a later date!)

Wormdoc
07-16-2006, 03:18 PM
Thanks everyone for coming and for all the food, and of course the requisite shooters! Those pina colada ones were awesome, even if they looked kinda....um....well...you know. It was nice not to have to drive.

Anyhoo, I'm glad our two newest 'readers' enjoyed themselves, too!

AND looking forward to hearing about the sleazebar field trip.

I felt bad for dipping out of book club early (Crissy made me do it), I always really enjoy myself so it was kind of a bummer...However...What went on for the rest of the night is something that happens very rarely and I shall forever hold it near and dear to my heart!

SO next book club is...????

Mommyof3
07-17-2006, 02:21 PM
hey now....I didn't make you do anything!!! I felt bad for leaving too, but I throughly enjoyed myself while I was there.

Next date is Aug. 19th...my house. I will put it on the calendar.

I'd like to attend the next BCM as well, but I AM NOT doing any pina colada jello shooters. GG, we'll have to line up a sitter for the midget. BTW is there a featured book that gets discussed? If so I've been reading the Da Vinci Code for the past 3 years and I'd love to discuss the 90+ pages I've been able to get thru. Awwwwwww who am I kidding? I'm coming for the liqour and the ladies.........

Maybe once a month we can do a "magazine night"? Like, for me, and it's been on the back of the commode for a week and a half now, the GUNS Magazine: 2007 Buyer's Guide. We could discuss the Sig P-232 in .380 caliber. Why, I remember when is was called a P-230 ... where is the P-231? And then don't sell the P-228 anymore - I think it's for LE only - but it was the gun that Mulder and Scully used in the X-Files. We could also converse about what makes the Walther P-99 .22cal worth $900. ANd how limited IS the HK M7P8 with forward cocking mechanism. And perhaps move on to the long barrels from there!

KemCam2
07-17-2006, 03:52 PM
Now men want to come...Oh lord...Well, you can come if you can handle being talked about like aren't there!

OK, now for that kind of book club, I'm there. My question for Sig is "why can't you guys make great guns on SMALL frames, ala the baby Glocks?" Even the 232 is too big and it's only a .380. If I wanted to carry a borderline-ineffective caliber I'd just get a Walther PPK so at least I could hum the James Bond theme music when I draw it. Now a little 9mm or .40 about that size would be all right, but Sig just seems to fixate on big, beefy pistols for some silly reason.

And the P7M8's are ok, but beware--when it breaks--and it will--H&K is not going to have parts on hand. They only run production on P7 parts once a year and all their customers wait. I love my P7M13 but H&K customer service...Aargh! The only one worse in the industry is COLT!

So I'm with you on this one, Lep. We need a gun-talk get-together for the guys and gun-gals of the area. Maybe we could even order up some of G. Gordon Liddy's "Stacked and Packed" calendars to keep track of the meetings with.

Wormdoc

1. I don't drink sissy drinks with fruit or umbrellas. If we're going to do shots, I think that I still have most of a bottle of good Stolichnya vodka that followed me home from Canada two winters ago.
2. Derrickson, I got the 411 on your thing for City from a little birdie, so don't try to deny it. BTW, have you told him how you feel yet? It's only fair, and you never know...he might think you're hot too.

derricksonb

Nope. But I might soon over some shots of Stoli and a few Pina colada Jello shooters. And what do you have against fruity umbralla drinks. I have a rum runner recipe that'll knock you on your ass- literaly- I've seen dudes fall over after drinking one.

Shucks![whistle]

This happens to me all the time! Here's how I handle it:

Ok, here goes...again...

Internet Board:
I'm sorry, but I don't feel that way about you, (insert name). However, you are free to desire all that you require until you tire or expire.

At work:
Are you in Upper Management?

At gay bar:
Yeah, You like that, don't you? Too bad it doesn't feel the same way.

In front of Husband:
Talk to him and see if I'm available.

In front of family:
Cousin Bobby, we aren't 12 anymore.

At straight bar:
I'm not putting on a dress so you feel better about yourself.
OR:
Dude, you're dating my best friend and I don't think she'd appreciate this.

At DMV:
Yeah, you can take another picture with YOUR camera...

In jail:
How many cigarettes will I get for THAT?

************************************************** ********

Oh, and I agree with Nanuk. Umbrella drinks look totally gay.

However, I am intrigued as to how or why you'd stick a toothpick umbrella in a pina colada flavored jello-shooter. Damn, that would hurt.

All I have to say is that I would not want to be the first one to try it.

OK< anything that turns perfectly good alcohol into a Bill Cosby jello snack is even lower on the manliness scale than an umbrella drink. Humphrey Bogart would never have slurped jello shots in Casablanca or The Maltese Falcon. Clint Eastwood wouldn't have touched them as Dirty Harry or in any of his westerns. And John Wayne? I don't think so.

DOn't get me wrong--they're fine for chicks and I approve of anything that gets alcohol into women--but as a man, I just can't do a jello shot.

For Nanuk and Lep, probably DericksonB, too, we can make lil' pina colada jello shooters with a lil' nekkid shrinky dink type of female figure (like the ones on the mud flaps of those big rigs [xx(] ) in order to make the imbibement a bit more manly.

I have some little mermaid drink thingies that the boys got from the waitress last time we went out for Chinese. Their arms drape over the side of the glass and their tails dip down into the drink. If you don't mind a little mermaid tail in your liquor, they're pretty sexy.

A few years back while vacationing in Cancun I slurped a tequila shooter from my wife's navel. Salt and lime wedge too! (Ooops, what goes on there ...)

I'll bring her along next meeting and we can get all slurped-up happy - she's got one of those deep innies that can hold a shot and a half! Plus it'll save me 'bout thirty minutes of foreplay for when we get back home!

Chutney Daftcraft
07-18-2006, 01:21 PM
I wouldn't be bragging about that deep of an innie...

Why does Lep remind me of the type of guy that would just start getting busy with his wife on a park bench? Oh, baby, fiddle me lucky charms...

Mommyof3
07-18-2006, 02:44 PM
okay....I go to work for a couple of hours and I come home to this!!! I am laughing so hard that I just spit water out of my nose! I never thought that a few jello shooters could cause so much HILARIOUS discussion.

But seriously.....The first time I had jello shooters was at a Jimmy Buffet concert- many years ago. All the men were doing them, and it wasn't odd at all. I would say that they are a party sort of item. No I could not picture a guy sitting around the house relaxing, and choose a jello shooter over a glass of stoli (which to me seems quite boring)....but if you are partying it up at a Buffet concert or a book club...well, you would fit right in. And if you really can't stoop to that level...well there is always the multiple bottles of wine that we go through each meeting.

If you're a true Jimmuh Buffet fan you'd have recogized the lyric from one of his songs called Boat Drinks. But does anybody know the title of his special love song - "from a slighly different point of view" as he tells his audience?

The chords for jumbo Gibson go like...

So [G} barmaid bring a pitcher, [D] another round of brew ...
