I'm subscribed to notification for the entire board. The message notifications I've received link me to the forum's log-in page. When I enter my user name and Pword the note says I have successfully logged in but when I click to continue, I am taken back to the log-in page- any ideas of what I'm not doing correctly?
Are you sure you have cookies enabled? I found some instructions at http://employer.admin.techies.com/cookie_howto.html - see if that helps.

Of course, you should still be able to *read* the public forums without logging in. You just can't post. In theory.

I just noticed something else. If you hit the 'logout' button it deletes all the session cookies so you'll have to log in next time you come. I usually just close the window, so clicking on an email link takes me straight to the topic.

There is a known bug with the e-mail notification. Sometimes it gets truncated so that the user gets a popup that says the approval wasn't found in the database. I have a mod/update that was designed to fix this problem, and may also resolve the circular login issue described in the beginning of the thread, but I need to appy it to the test installation and make sure it works as advertised. There are also some other tech notes about logins that jump to the wrong place and I'll keep an eye out for them.
Hopefully I can confirm it today and I will apply it to the shannondale.org forum tonight.

Things seem to be working ok for me now since I think I "lost my cookies". I have set my internet explorer set to accept all cookies( is that correct)- anyway I've been able to hit the links on the 3 notification msgs I've tried and they've taken me directly to the post to which they refer

I'm not the paranoid type, but I have my cookie options set not to 'all', but probably more liberal than many.
If you have a PC, be SURE to run a firewall, allow Windows auto-updating, virus checker auto-updating ON, and run at least all three of the following free anti-malware programs:
Adaware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/
Spyware Blaster http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spywareblaster.html
Be sure to let Spybot inoculate you too.
