A mail order company used my new mail address instead of the RR box and someone in the mail system scratched it out and put in my Box number -- where I did receive it.

So, I believe it was Travelina who said we're supposed to wait till we get the official word.

Just my experience.

Agreed. The post office people are still debating how to make the new addresses work with the least amount of grief. I haven't talked to them in a couple months, but this is what the head person (Postmadam, postalmistress, postmaster, Chief Acting person in charge) told me.

You need to continue using the Route 2 or 4 or 6 number with a box number (and DO NOT use PO) rather than the street address for postal service. (Only exception being for a few of the new houses.

What you can do though is take advantage of places that allow 4 lines of address.

First Line = Name,
Second line = Street
Third line = Route X Box YYYY
4th = Harpers Ferry, WV 25425-ZZZZ

The automatic sorting system that generates and orders the mail on the bar codes will use the 9 digit zip as a first choice. That is not set up to handle the street addresses yet. Second choice is the route and box number. Third choice is see if a human can figure it out. With temporairy people filling in vacation, etc, the second and third choices are more likely to have problems, delay with mail, returned to sender, etc.

That is the order I give to get UPS or FedEx service and I get my pkgs delivered to my home. Bless those delivery people cause they're working off 3x5 cards or their own "system". Not only that they are so good that I've had them phone my home telling me they're trying to deliver a pkg and need better instructions on getting to my residence.

That's been my experience.

I actually called the Jefferson County Addressing office in the court house and they informed me that you do not go by the phone book address. Go by the one the post office gave you.

They also said that our new addresses HAVE NOT gone into effect yet and DO NOT USE IT. We will get a card in the mail from the post office when they are ready.

well, heres an interesting twist...

in yesterdays mail, i found that my real estate tax bill was inadvertantly sent to me (which i now have to forward to my mortgage company.) it was sent from the sherriffs office & addressed to my rt 2 box #.

in todays mail was my personal property tax bill which also came from the sherriffs office. it was sent to my STREET ADDRESS, which the post office then crossed out and hand corrected to my box #.

now how on earth does the sherriffs office send one bill to my box # and the very next day send me another bill to my street address????? both bills were computer generated from the same office. go figure!!!

Betsu - my husband went down to Charles Town to ask some questions regarding our property - real estate taxes - (we rcd ours in the mail too) he was told that they are not sending them to the Mortgage/escrow companies anymore.......I am not sure what the explanation was but you might want to check into it and call the Jefferson County Tax collection Office and your mortgage/escrow company just in case!

thanks ozgirl. i stopped by the tax office today and they have a posted notice stating that. BUT youd think they wouldve included a notice with our bills to avoid all the extra phone calls, etc. blech!
