My dear fellow mountain folk....
I've got a 'pond' in my back yard that is usually fairly good at holding water, but lately hasn't been. It's just dirt. I'd like to get it lined with either cement or something? What would you all suggest and do you know of someone who'd be willing to do that for a reasonable price?
Thank ya muchly!

How big of a pond are we talking here?
Maybe it's drying out because of the horrible lack of rain. That's a pretty big natural pond back there isn't it...not man made?

Have you thought:
Terrarium?
I gotta admit this near-drought has caught me by surprise.
At Sunday's outing I kept worrying about everyone in the river but in fact it was rarely deeper than anyone's ankles!
Ah, more on-topic - doesn't everyone just buy and bury those plastic ponds (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productList&N=0&Ntk=i_products&Ntt=pond) these days (at Lowes/Home Depot)?

I am this summer. I had a trench-like culvert thing dug thru my yard ending by the gayzebo. I'm going to line the culvert with plastic and netting, then use all the rocks I got for free (tons of them) when they were blasting for the Home Depot in Ranson a while back, kinda like a rocky stream. The pond is going at the end by the gayzebo, and there will be a pump and an underground pipe pumping it back to the beginning of the stream where it will flow back into the pond. I've always wanted a stream, and since I don't have one, I'ma make me one!
That's why I was asking about the size. Next year or so when I get around to being able to get a Kubota, I may just use it to do these premeire yard scape ideas that keep rushing into my head for people.

I guess size wise it's about 12x8 and it is, I think, partly manmade....it looks like there was some digging out of it long before I moved in. There is some spring feeding, it seems, but only when there's been reasonable rain.
I was wondering which was best....the plastic liner thingies or cement?

Give me a call when you have a moment or stop by. My husband and I have made/created three over the years, one with a 65 foot waterfall.....I think my husband could give you some very good advice.

We have one of the plastic ones (for about 10 yrs). It now has a leak and it will be impossible to find another one exactly the same so I need to check out your ponds too GK. When I come over to buy my ducks ;)
one with a 65 foot waterfallHeh. If this one's at your house now, I think we should get some pics!

Nope the one with the 65 foot waterfall was on Valley View Drive, could be seen from Shannondale Road as you came around the last hairpin curve before Johnnycake!
Seriously, we've done small and very large in ground ponds with waterfalls, run offs, etc. It does not have to be real expensive to have something that looks great and attracts all kind of birds, etc.

GranK...it sounds wonderful. I just want something nice for the critters and a place for me to commune with the spirits and for Teri to dip her belly to cool off.
It was real full when we had all that rain, but then pffffttttt....

we are also thinking about adding a pond to the yard. We were looking at a Sams club special one, but didn't get it last time. It's one of those plastic ones. I did buy a book on how to create ponds of all sizes and types.
We may put one in this year.
GrandmaK, love to see some pics of the ones ya'll did
