One year ago on April 10 2004, our first user registered here at Shannondale.org. It was the culmination of a couple of very hectic months after shannondale.tv went down leaving the area with no local discussion forum.
The year hasn't been without it's hiccups, but by and large I think our members have done well by it. One recurring theme us founders thought vital (and still do) was that we wanted a board free of censorship. This is a mixed blessing, as it means you're going to hear things you don't want to. A while back, more than one member wrote me angrily threatening to leave the board if I didn't boot Sphinx. Heck, even *Sphinx* wrote later and asked to be booted! I refused them all, and only the future will tell if that was the right decision.
Time to thank the humble staff now that we've gotten through a whole year without any serious mishaps...
cgallo - Chip - Co-administrator, donated, and in charge of, our server.
TonyB - Tony Joe - Co-administrator, day-to-day forum & website operations (myself)
Willis - Will - Moderator, promotions
TonyR - Tony Rosati- (the _other_ Tony) - Moderator, government liaison
And an honorable mention to Cindylu; although she was unable to take on moderator tasks, she kept the other four of us on track when the time for talk was over and we had to get the board up _now_.
While we're at it, let's thank our 'Guest Forum' moderators too. Neal, campbell (Camille), and RGSofSSP (Ron). Our offer to host more guest forums stands for any local organizations.
My one wish? That everyone put a bit more effort into their profiles. Too many times we click on names only to see no picture and an address of "Harper's Ferry". Spend a minute or two on it please.
Here's to another great year to come and many more after that!<center>
