Microsoft must feel that an acquisition of Yahoo is the only way to leverage some competition with Google.

It's a great time for Microsoft to buy them, as Yahoo has been slippin' for a while. The right technological and monetary infusions by Microsoft could make Yahoo a force to be reconed with, much like Google.

However, I think we as consumers will benefit from their strides to beat each other. I actually look forward to this as a consumer, but my soft side feels bad for the folks at Yahoo who will be "reduced". I hope they fend well.

Pretty much the same product, so I doubt users would gain anything from the sale.
