I'm sorry to say I only now got around to hiking the Ridge Trail this year. The Ridge Trail is uphill and to the left of our FOSS spot #4 (map link here (http://www.shannondale.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8484)). Actually, we have a better map somewhere, but I can't find it.

The trail needs work, as it looks like it hasn't been cleared for several years. I had hand pruners with me, but some more equipment (gloves, hedge trimmers, loppers, tree saw) would have been useful in spots.

I suppose if we're going to clear it we also need to figure out how far to clear. I went out about 30 minutes and came across nothing interesting at all, and no landmarks.

I bet the trail to the right (the name escapes me now) could use clearing. And all the trails could use herbicide to soak the ubiquitous multiflora rose thorns.

Now... where the heck is that DNR map...

ridge trail furnace trail, old farm trail, river trail and lost island trail
We knew the trails needed work- Prolly a chain saw and about 2-3 days given the number of volunteers we usually get. Those trails ought to be clear for firefighting efforts and injuries, at least. Once the Picnic is over, I vote we make an appointment with Romney
ROAD TRIP!!

I had the Ridge Trail all clear of both branches and trash two springs ago, but when I used it once this year it was rather bad with both.

That's the map. I thought we had a full size one up? Email me a full size one and I'll label it I guess.

Anyway, that shows Ridge trail as being maybe 3000 feet, but it looks like it could go another 1-2000 for hiking, if not hunting.

I saw the previous cuts and thought they looked more like 10 years old! But what do I know? I only spotted two pieces of trash back-trail but that wasn't enough to make me take my bag out, so I left them.

I don't really think it needs a big crew with chainsaws, I just wanted everyone to know to bring equipment the next time they go that way. Then again, if we had someone that could actually read a GPS maybe we could at least mark the end of the thing.

Ya, I guess I'm up for a trip to Romney, though I'm not sure what good it will do.
