My Mom's BFF, Katharine

I spent yesterday visiting K. at her apartment in Columbia Heights near Adams Morgan in D.C. Katharine will be 99 years old on June 4th. I love her. K. taught school in D.C. with my mom, first at the old Amidon elementary school and later at the John Q. Adams es.

K. is still sharp as a tack and has many memories of my late Mom. We joked about whether she'd pass my mom's 100yrs, 9 day longevity. I don't know, but I do know I enjoy visiting her and chatting with her. Her BD present from me this year was a digital picture frame with several hundred pics, both from those REALLY olden days and those of K. and my mom in more recent times.

K. is the last of four dedicated theatre goers. Mom, at 92 yrs, would drive to D.C. and then take her three friends to the Ken Cen, Arena and Nat'l's stages. They had season tix @ all 3. A Broken shoulder suffered at the Smithsonian Gallery of Art finally sidelined Mom's "taxi" duties. and initiated my wonderful care-taking years. K. is the last link to my mom's generation. Cripes, I'd take her in but she's got excellent care at her apartment-24/7
