It should be a good weekend to check on the progress that's been made back there this year. If you're in town and looking for a day's activity it would be worthwhile to check out.

I am quite pleased to announce that a new trail has recently been opened up at the Shannondale Springs WMA (north) that serves as an upper access to the bathhouse from the approximate spot of the old barn along the Ridge Trail. This "Upper Trail" is something that I have been personally investigating for the past couple of years, as to the feasibility of reestablishing it. I would guess that this trail had many, many decades ago been abandoned, and allowed to grow over. I tried following it by mtn. bike several years ago from both ends and could not come close enough to a connection to proceed further.

This year the DNR has taken a more active role in the local DNR lands. I had mentioned previously about the potential to reestablish the upper trail to them, and they did come through with a bulldozer run this past winter to facilitate my efforts to remake this trail. I have followed up on what they have done and an easily hikeable path has been reestablished. Feel free to investigate this new access to areas that were previously inaccessible. I do implore, that any who do, do not leave litter behind, in the form of innocent water bottles, or whatever. This is some of the most pristine areas of the WMA.
