Nextdoor Site for Shannondale?

We have started a Nextdoor site for Blue Ridge Acres and it has grown to nearly 60 residents within six months. The users must be residents or owners within the confines of BRA and confirmation is required. Everyone uses real names and so far the exchange of information has been functional, focused and civilized.

Nextdoor will soon release a "nearby neighbors" feature so two or more nearby communities can collaborate. Right now there are no nearby neighbors on the system so I am looking for a hardy soul or two here on the mountain to lend their assistance. I suggest that you visit http://www.nextdoor.com and get a sense of the mission and purpose. At Blueridgeacres.Nextdoor.com we have shared job referrals, give-away and for sale items, merchant recommendations, community calendar, special interest groups, Neighborhood Watch type info and more. Ideally your new Nextdoor community should have the potential for at least 100 home owners or residents although this is not a hard requirement.

After seeing this kind of site in operation locally, I appreciate the tactical value of closed, real name sites. They can complement rather than compete with other social networks like S&B and Facebook. Feel free to contact me here or via e-mail at "chipgallo (at) gmail.com" if you are interested in helping out.

One of Country music's legends has passed away and is now playing his music in a heavenly honky-tonk...........

George Jones, the country music legend whose graceful, evocative voice gave depth to some of the greatest songs in country music -- including "She Thinks I Still Care," "The Grand Tour" and "He Stopped Loving Her Today" -- has died, according to his public relations firm.

Jones, 81, died Friday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, the public relations firm said. He had been hospitalized since April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure.

If any of his fans want to seek and post some YouTube videos of his performances and interviews on this thread, it would be a most fitting tribute.
