MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Military families can buy groceries for an average of 30 percent off this weekend at a special commissary sale sponsored by the West Virginia National Guard.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at building 305 of the 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg.
Organizers say shoppers can find fresh meat and produce as well as canned goods, snacks, pet food, water and sports drinks.
The commissary also has pet food, household cleaning supplies and personal care items.
Current and retired members of any branch of the armed services can shop with a military ID card. Dependents can also shop if they have a card.

11 year old suspended 10 days for just having a discussion about guns on a school bus? Sheriff department wanted to search the family residence for guns based on the interview with the child at school? More than a third of recent marriages in the USA started online, according to a study out Monday that presents more evidence of just how much technology has taken hold of our lives.


"Societally, we are going to increasingly meet more of our romantic partners online as we establish more of an online presence in terms of social media," says Caitlin Moldvay, a dating industry senior analyst for market research firm IBISWorld in Santa Monica, Calif. "I do think mobile dating is going to be the main driver of this growth."


The research, based on a survey of more than 19,000 individuals who married between 2005 and 2012, also found relationships that began online are slightly happier and less likely to split than those that started offline.


Findings, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, put the percentage of married couples that now meet online at almost 35%....

GRAPEVINE, Texas – After lengthy and wrenching debate, local leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have voted to open their ranks to openly gay boys for the first time, but heated reactions from the left and right made clear that the BSA's controversies are far from over.

The Scouts' longstanding ban on gay adults remains in force, and many liberal Scout leaders -- as well as gay-rights groups -- plan to continue pressing for an end to that exclusion even though the BSA's top officials aren't ready for that step.

Meanwhile, many conservatives within the Scouts are distraught at the outcome of the vote and some are threatening to defect. A meeting is planned for next month to discuss the formation of a new organization for boys....

My Daddy was born in Texas and grew up in Oklahoma. The family lived in sod huts much of the time. Even those modest abodes had easily accessible storm cellars (or storm caves as Dad called them).

When you lived on the plains, you took the necessary precautions. Now there are mobile homes and houses built on slabs with no places of refuge available. I haven't heard the details of the school that was slammed. I wonder if it had any means of protection other than hiding under a desk?

It's much less expensive to build w/o basements or adding storm cellars to the mix. Maybe it's time to provide residents with, at the least, holes in the ground in which to hide.
