Yay FOUND! FOUND! FOUND!!!HELP! Missing 2 dogs

Please help!! I have 2 dogs that went missing Wednesday, January 28th, in the afternoon. One is a neutered male brindle pit bull terrier wearing a black leather collar. The other is a spayed female Boerboel (south african mastiff) fawn colored, wearing a pink collar with her name embroidered on it. They are very friendly and are not used to staying outside in the cold. I have followed their foot prints through the woods, up to Eagles Nest and then the trail went cold when it intersected with a lot of deer tracks and bear tracks. My husband and I have drove all over Shannondale and Virginia by Blackburn. It seems they have totally disappeared. We are extremely worried, they have missed 3 meals now and are not equipped to stay in the cold weather. Please, if anyone has seen them, please call us 304-728-7237. Please help us!

They're beautiful dogs! I'll keep an eye out this way but you may want to post fliers at Sweet Springs.

Do they have ID tags? Our 2 dogs made it over to the Virginia side of the AT and to a farm out past Sweet Springs, on Creamer Road (near Harpers Ferry Road). The owner of the farm was very kind and let them in her fenced-in area to play with her dogs. They were gone overnight and we were so worried! Fortunately, our pit bull mix had his ID tag on with my son's cell phone number, and she called. She commented that she's found several dogs at her gate from our area. Thank God they stayed together because our Mastiff-mix didn't have his tag on his collar!

Thank you. They both have ID tags with their name, my name and my cell phone number. I did not check Creamer Lane, that seemed too far away. I will have to check tomorrow when there is daylight. I filed a report with Jefferson and Loudoun Counties. We are so lost without them. We have 2 other dogs but its not the same without them.

In addition to Sweet Springs, you might also want to post fliers at notable places on Harpers Ferry Road, namely the little market in the middle of the "town" of Neersville, the gas station where HF Rd meets Rt 340, and the fire department.
They're gorgeous dogs. I hope they come home soon.

I'll let the Loudoun School Bus drivers that have routes out that way know to keep an eye out!

Hope they get back soon, they may be able to pick up a scent as the snow melts. Keep us posted!

Try calling the local vets....Blue Ridge, Hoof and Paw, and P.Ville.

OH! there's a small house on Rebels Roost, next to the real ugly, unfinished nasty house....one of the guys who lives there has a Pit/chow mix, who loves to run. Her name is Nikki, you might check that area, they could have met up with eachother. Nikki's owner's name is Rhett, tell him Sarah sent you.

I've been up there a couple of times, no luck. I actually follwed their tracks through our back yard, up the mountain, through all the thick brush, etc. I walked right past the house you are referring to. Their tracks went beyond that and up through the woods to Eagles Nest. They crossed over Eagles nest but did not go as far as the AT. I walked the trail from where Blackburn turns off to where the cut off to the beginning of Eagles Nest. There tracks were no where to be found on the AT. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether two house dogs could survive in this cold for two nights in a row? They haven't eaten since yesterdays breakfast.

I'd have to say they could survive, because they'd stay together, and utilize eachothers body heat. They could have lost their collars, and someone could have taken them in.

I'm sure your dogs will be fine. Which road do you live on? Because I saw some foot prints leading into the woods on Wrens view lane earlier. I didn't think they were deer prints either. I really hope you find them.

I hope we find them too. My husband is going out again now. I want to really thank everyone for their support. Its really nice to hear neighbors still care about each other. Thanks!
We live on the gravel portion of Alta Vista, directly under Rebels Roost and Eagles Nest. I, unfortunately am not familiar with Wrens View, there are so many dogs on this mountain..those tracks could belong to anyone. I found myself following bear tracks because I mistook them for my mastiff. Then I saw the claw marks, and the poop. Definitely not a dog. Bummer.

Names are Niko (short for Nikomachos) and Rose. Her name is embroidered really big on the back neck portion of her collar. I do not think they are going to lose their collars easily. They are both D ring collars, very heavy duty made by Blocky Dogs. But I guess anything is possible.

They could survive in this. Do not fret about the cold. Dogs are amazing creatures...And I have been finding that my dog has been digging with his nose under the ice/snow for odd treats?...? They will find food if they are hungry.

I will keep my eye out. Both even.

Was there a road near where the tracks went dead? Maybe someone picked them up?

    They are beautiful.
My, what a pretty glass house you live in...

Keeping eyes open, we have a remote spot next to a creek just below the Skyline cliff, and have had missing dogs show up here before.

I hope they are home soon. We will keep an eye out too. Good luck with looking for them. I also know how you feel. I searched for my husky for a week in NJ when she got lost.

Do they know where they are at home??? Have you always lived up here with them? Maybe, hopefully, they will walk towards home again.

Again, good luck and let us know if there is anything we can do.

I think that we saw both of your dogs yesterday on Moonridge at about 6 am - we were trying to get down to work, and the big dog with the pink collar came out in front of us, and the other one was behind it. We thought that someone must've let their dogs out for the bathroom since it was so early. It's probably yours, you don't see many stray mastiffs with pink collars wandering the mountain with a pit bull behind her.

I will keep an eye out and post if I see them here, but you can at least localize your search and put up some posters in the immediate area. PM me if you don't know where this is
(it's beside Wren's View, so that lends credence to the other person too) - we'll be happy to help put up posters. In the mean time, have you called Animal Control? I doubt they've been up here in the last few days, but you never know.

I'll talk to my neighbors, if you want to PM me your number, we'll put out food for them and see if they come to eat. Half the street is home all day, so if they're still around, chances are someone will see them.

Amarie123 I live close to AMDrumgoole (Wren / Skyline area). I will be taking a walk this morning (maybe with Munster) and will carry a lease in case I find Niko and Rose. If you would like to base you search from my house you are welcomed, just pm. You are also welcomed to come with me. I know the area up here fairly well.

This is fantastic news. I have dispatched my husband to that area, hopefully they are still hanging around. I now have a map of the entire area and know where all these streets are. This is just down the mountain headed towards Rt 9 from us. I am so releived to hear they are not visibly hurt and in an area with more houses than over here by us. I was so afraid because we really have nothing but woods around us.
    I'll keep you posted.

I just wanted to add that having owned many different dogs that have strayed a time or two, and worked for a Vet in a past life that dogs and cats survive well w/o food for a couple of days, it is the water that is important. With all the snow and ice and puddles (yuck I know) they will probably be fine finding a watering hole or eating snow. Their instincts kick in pretty quickly and their desire to survive is a lot stronger than humans. I live up on Wrens View over the big hill and down the road and will call if I spot them. I haven't been home in awhile, but I am heading up that way this afternoon. If I see them, I will put them in the house and call you immediately.
