Starting fluid works great, no mess, and after you spray just pluck them off the tree.

Yes, the pic was taken shortly before they left the area. We used the messier stick and stomp approach.

I found a lot of catepillars today that are dead from the fungus. If they are hanging head down on the tree trunks then that is a sign of fungus. And if you poke them they often squirt out a lovely brown juice when they are dead.
