I was in Walmart about 2 weeks ago, and had seen down where the deli was that a Subway was being put where the snack area use to be.
Also why is Long John Silvers Closed?

Long Johns has a sign that says it will return in the Spring of 2006...with an A&W ???? I could be reading it wrong though.
I am happy to see the subway at Walmart - I never cross the road to were the Subway actually is, but I spend plenty of time at Walmart- so that will be convienent!
mommyof3 - it would seem alot easier to just go to walmart. trying to get across the street to the other subway is a bad
intersection. Subway at walmart would be more convenient.
Have a great weekend.
Cool. Go down the steps in the parking lot, buy some tokens or a pass card, ride the train to the gardening dept, pick up some potting soil, hop back on the train, go down two stops to pets, add some dog biscuits to the basket, back on the train 3 more stops to Automotive for some windshield fluid, then ride back to the stop for the cashier, then on to the parking lot. Hmmmm maybe need a backpack and escalator rather than the normal steps and grocery basket shopping cart.

You are correct. It's going to be one of those combination fast food places, two separate restaurants under one roof. I believe I've seen a KFC/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut in Frederick. I never even knew there was such a thing as an A&W Restaurant, but i did find a menu for them. Something different, I guess.quote:Originally posted by Mommyof3

For old-timers in the Wash. D.C. area- J. Willard Marriott moved to DC from Utah in the 20's and opened an A&W franchise, a small stand he called "The Hot Shoppe". I recall getting "teen twists" at the curb service at Hot Shoppes which were eventually expanded to all over the Wash. area. My Dad used to take my Mom to that little stand of J. Willard's when they were courting in the mid 1920's. Geezers love to reminisce!
When I was a kid, we used to go to an A&W somewhere , but I don't remember. Unfortunately, I grew up in Loudon County, so it had to be maybe Tysons area? I remember the icey mugs. We had several of them. Does anyone else rem?
If people weren't so ignorant, self-absorbed, and down right stupid, I wouldn't be so Bitchy all the time.
I think there was an A&W in the Frederick Mall or maybe it was the Manassas Mall. I can remember going and drinking from the frosty mugs too- but not sure where. (especially like the root beer floats!)
There was an A&W restaurant in the Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg in the mid to late 1980's. It was a pretty kid friendly place - our kids loved it. Agreed....it is something different. Actually I didn't even know the restaurants still existed!
i think there used to be one in fair oaks mall....

I remember the one in Fair Oaks Mall.
Rebecca
so it must be Fair Oaks that I am thinking of. When I was younger we usually went to Manassas, Frederick or Fair Oaks (were too poor for Tysons!). In Leesburg, there is rumor of a KFC / A&W going in next to the Sheetz. It is getting a lot of slack from the town council though. If any of you have been to that Sheetz, Walmart area- you know that it is a basically a traffic nightmare (especially if you are trying to cross to Costco), and the KFC/AW would add to the traffic big time. Anyway- guess I don't give a crap now that I don't live there anymore!!!woohoo!
We had them in Michigan, too. Lots of fun to head over to the A&W for either a nice, icy mug or, on occasion, the absolutely delicious root beer float! Do drive-ins with "carhops" still exist anywhere?
Isn't there something like that (car-hop/drive in) in Winchester?? Maybe called Sonic?? (I could just be dreaming, tho'[schin])
I'm pretty sure now that it was Lakeforest Mall in Md where we used to go. It was a huge two story mall but I know it wasn't Fair Oaks.
We always stop by the A&W in Pigeon Forge, TN, basically a bi-annual trip. There is one in Rockville, MD by Montgomery College but it doesn't have the cool drive up/rollerskating carhops. That makes it a cool place to go. The food is ok too, of course great root beer floats. It woulc be really fun in the summer. Anyone remember the Mighty Moe? I was just talking about Hot Shoppes yesterday. Hot Shoppes, Farrell's, and the Magic Pan. My three very favorite, no-longer-existant, resturants.
There is one in Chantilly.

oh my gosh! I had forgotten all about Farrell's. We used to go there all the time at Tyson's. We LOVED that place.
