    Creepy Don't Dare Forget The Halloween Party at the MCC or the Goblins Might Getcha!

    Stuff we need! If you can help, leave a message or PM Alicia or me.

    A grill! We'd like to grill some hot dogs and hamburgers outside on the grill for the kiddos and their goblin escorts

    Helium tanks! Got a half-full one hanging around from the last bday party? Think about donating it for the Halloween party! We'd like to get enough orange and black baloons in there to do a reenactment of UP! only ghoulish

    Food! wanna bring a dish? Let us know what you'd like to cook up and we'll plan around the list of donated goodies. We're looking for sweets and savory dishes, Halloween-y appetizers, etc

    Candy! What's a Halloween party without candy? Jettison some of the pre-Halloween overload and bring a bag to the party!

    Halloween-y music/DVDs: We promise to take good care of them and return them right after the party.

    I'm scouting around for a funky-shaped jar for the M&M guessing game, but if anyone has a super-silly one on hand, let me know!

    Hands for decorating and clean-up. You won't believe me, but that's when we always have the most fun!

    Help with signage/fliers! We'd like to let as many folks as possible know about the party and plan to put up signs around the MCC and fliers all around the mountain. We're looking for design/painting help as well as hands to distribute the fliers.

    Scarecrows! Enter the scarecrow contest! Use those imaginations!

    Any and all help is warmly appreciated

    I'll be glad to help with the decorating and cleanup. I will also plan to bring a dish and candy. I have a cute little witch candy jar that might be good for the guessing game.

    We'll bring the grill, and some dogs and burgers and candy - since we don't get trick or treaters up here, we'll come down.

    We'll be out trick or treating, and possibly stop by, but have soccer all the way up til then. I can bring candy but don't think we'll be able to help out in anywayb, except by donations.

    Creepy Wonders Never Cease on the Blue Ridge

    I was just handed some books from which I'm going to read stories to the kiddies at the MCC's Halloween Party.
    I'm going to check and see if they have a lot of pitchers and very little text.

    I expect a lot of you guys to attend. This is a chance to show support for the Community Center, meet your neighbors and get a preview of what the new library is all about. Kids can still collect treats and attend before or after or both.

    I've posted the poem below in past years. My Mom used to read it around Halloween time. It's a scary one- I might read it on the 31st. Here it is:
    LITTLE ORPHANT ANNIE
    by: James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916)
    INSCRIBED WITH ALL FAITH AND AFFECTION

    To all the little children: -- The happy ones; and sad ones;
    The sober and the silent ones; the boisterous and glad ones;
    The good ones -- Yes, the good ones, too; and all the lovely bad ones.

    LITTLE Orphant Annie's come to our house to stay,
    An' wash the cups an' saucers up, an' brush the crumbs away,
    An' shoo the chickens off the porch, an' dust the hearth, an' sweep,
    An' make the fire, an' bake the bread, an' earn her board-an'-keep;
    An' all us other childern, when the supper-things is done,
    We set around the kitchen fire an' has the mostest fun
    A-list'nin' to the witch-tales 'at Annie tells about,
    An' the Gobble-uns 'at gits you
    Ef you
    Don't
    Watch
    Out!

    Wunst they wuz a little boy wouldn't say his prayers,--
    An' when he went to bed at night, away up-stairs,
    His Mammy heerd him holler, an' his Daddy heerd him bawl,
    An' when they turn't the kivvers down, he wuzn't there at all!
    An' they seeked him in the rafter-room, an' cubby-hole, an' press,
    An' seeked him up the chimbly-flue, an' ever'-wheres, I guess;
    But all they ever found wuz thist his pants an' roundabout:--
    An' the Gobble-uns 'll git you
    Ef you
    Don't
    Watch
    Out!

    An' one time a little girl 'ud allus laugh an' grin,
    An' make fun of ever' one, an' all her blood-an'-kin;
    An' wunst, when they was "company," an' ole folks wuz there,
    She mocked 'em an' shocked 'em, an' said she didn't care!
    An' thist as she kicked her heels, an' turn't to run an' hide,
    They wuz two great big Black Things a-standin' by her side,
    An' they snatched her through the ceilin' 'fore she knowed what she's about!
    An' the Gobble-uns 'll git you
    Ef you

    You can bring punch!

    I raided Willis' wardrobe last night and will be working on my Willis scarecrow this weekend

    There will be cash prizes for best scarecrow ($50) and for best adult costume ($50). We're working on some fun prizes for the kiddos, too

    kconant declines with regret the kind invitation to attend a Halloween Party at the St Andrew's Mountain Community Center. She will be working from 5pm to 11pm that evening.

    I may try to swing by early with a couple of bags of donated candy.
    Have you ever noticed that those who advocate the hardest for personal responsibility never seem to take any when they cause their own negative situations?

    We're still looking for helium tanks and orange/black balloons as well as kid-appropriate Halloween DVDs if anyone has some to donate/loan. Thanks!

    My dad might have our old copy. I'll ask him. VHS, if that's okay.
