    Default Question about Posting

Okay, so I've seen that my post was moved from General Chat to The Ugly. Which doesn't bother me. I just feel that it makes more work for the Mods to make sure the threads are in the right spot. I'm just confused on The Ugly and the General Chat section. For the fact that a lot of threads end up in a fuss or argument.

Again it doesn't bother me if my thread is moved to one spot to another. No Big Deal. I just don't want to be posting in the wrong area.

(I posted this in "The Ugly" section for the fact some get upset about threads being moved.)

Sometimes a move has nothing to do with the original poster, but subsequent comments. Some threads go in a way that the OP didn't anticipate.

Some threads are hard to categorize and require a judgment call. Use your best judgment, and when it's ambiguous, it will probably stay where it is. Don't worry about "making work" for us. That's what we're here for

I second Jenniffer, it's not always the OP, but the trend of certain threads to snowball into free-for alls.

    Fyi I Moved It Jeremy

What Jenniffer and AMD said is right on target. Some topics, posted with the best intentions, devolve into the type of discussions that we are trying to segregate in the "BAD" category and/or the "UGLY" forum if they don't fit the other forums in that category.

Folks are welcome to post wherever they wish, but we do ask for a little common sense. In your case Jeremy, the move wasn't prompted by your topic but by the direction of the following discussion. Some things ARE common sense-e.g. Posting a political topic or suspicious activity in general chat.

And some subjects we ALL SHOULD know are going to get nasty no matter how innocent the motive for posting (e.g. any topic with ATV, clearcut, loose dogs, reckless driving or other buzzwords/phrases) can be expected to be moved to the bad category ASAP.

If you see a topic has been moved and question why, use the report post icon to pose the question. If we've made an error-it can be corrected.

I completely understand. I guess there some topics that you don't know what direction they will go.

And that's why we have Mods

Jeremy I was wondering those same things when my church finding thread was moved from Interests to Help.
Looks like it may need to be moved again

Nothing irks me more than to going looking for a thread and find it's played musical chairs.

    Talking A Learning Experience

The management has been criticized for some things in the past. We're trying to respond to the suggestions that have been made. It's going to be a learning experience on the moderators' and the users' parts.

We were told we've been losing viewers because some folks didn't like some of the contentious issues that we discuss. We've now segregated those in their own category and added a caveat. Users can help by posting in the correct forum and understanding that when a topic takes an unexpected turn, it's going to be moved.

As Moderators, we have to rid ourselves of bad habits, too. Ambiguous thread titles, posting in the correct forum and adhering to the rules apply to our posts as well. Users can report our posts as well as others using the icon - -

As for finding threads, the redirect is right easy to find. You guys are just going to have to work with us and be patient. We're trying to be responsive to your suggestions.

Right, No thread has ever been moved without a redirect. At most it would take you .1 seconds to read it.

Of course, if you're using the "New Posts" search function, then it takes no extra time at all.

Proper categorization is vital to a good forum. "Where can I find a local church?" is clearly a question, not a club or an item of special interest.

Tony, I'm pretty sure I remember you recommending "spiritual/religious" threads be posted in the Clubs and Interests forum.

There are questions all over the forums. It would be silly to put them all in the Help forum.
It just seems to me that a question should be placed in the forum appropriate to the subject of the question (in this case an "interest").

I never said it was easy making these categorizations. If it was, you would have sent the simple question to Help! to begin with.

When someone asks "Does anyone know a good local plumber" they don't necessarily have any interest in plumbing. They just want an answer to their question, not a discussion of various plumbing techniques.

Note that if anyone starts arguing about anything in your thread, it will be moved again, presumably to The Ugly. We aim to please!
