Sorry, I just got back from the big city a short time ago, cindylu. I expect there isn't much coing on this memorial day weekend. I'm sure they'd find a use for what you have. You might PM user SAMCCP-which would be John or Jenniffer most likely to find a time to drop off your loot.

The trick is finding something legal to show. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/us...6----000-.html

I think its a great idea.

Where I used to live they had a free movie night at a local church. My kids looked forward to it. Someone had donated all the projection and sound equipment along with a popcorn maker and a bank account to supply the popcorn and drinks. It was once a week and they showed popular G and PG movies. I didn't ever hear of any legal action against them.

Tony - If there isn't a charge to those viewing then I believe it would be ok. I believe technically you can't charge without providing the owner(s) a portion of a fee that has been levied to viewers--like in a movie theater.

There are some public domain movies out there, although not many. Licenses can be obtained, and apparently this is easier (and possibly cheaper) if it falls under the PUBLIC LIBRARY portion of the MCC. Here is some info I found on Nebraska's public library movies: http://www.nlc.state.ne.us/libdev/motionpicture.html Apparently Avon Bend in Charles Town does outdoor movies in the summer. I hope no one minds that I sent them an email asking if they have any licensing information.

    Just a suggestion.

I would love to see some of this happen, and maybe even help a little, but there has to be some interest.

Okay, so Avon Bend actually got back to me, they don't mess with licensing. They basically said they don't charge so they don't bother with them...

What we've done in the past is take donations for food/drinks instead. People are usually reasonable with their donations, for the most part.

I am new to the MCC but have lived here for several years. I was under the impression that this was open to a select group of people. Perhaps a link with some information that shares what all is available at and from the MCC for people like me who have limited time but want to be more involved with mountain life! I have heard that there are all kinds of things that go on at the MCC but I seem to find out a little to late. I am excited to find out more.

B0731, The MCC is open to all comers. Primarily for the Mountain Community, all are welcome as "select" visitors/members/participants. There are several ways to access info. The S&B website maintains a calendar linked on the navbar above. It has a feature to request email reminders of events. The MCC also maintains a Facebook Page HERE. Some of the activities also have their own FB pages, e.g. the Locavore Project WV. You've found the MCC's forum on the website (Doh, I'm replying to your post right now) and I'm sure others will chip in with more info

Of course, the best way to find out about activities is to get involved. The MCC's Board meets every month and the membership has quarterly meetings (membership entails a $5 donation), all of which are open to the public. We're "select" only in the sense that I think everyone who supports/attends/participates in the MCC's activities is SPECIAL.

There is yoga (Sat a.m), martial arts (evening(s) not sure when; zumba classes, occasional storytimes; AA meetings, yard sales, teen dances, vendors on Sunday a.m., a library, a Locavore project - this Sat showing a movie about the bee crisis; just to name a few.

I recommend checking the Facebook page Willis provided or the Announcement an events sections of this forum, or contact Jenniffer (forum moderator and person involved with the MCC) if there is something in the list above that particularly interests you.

While there certainly are some "select" groups on the Mountain, the MCC events are open generally to everyone.

Oh, yes, we would LOVE to have you visit us at The Center. There's something for everyone! Story time will resume in September, and there's a knitting/crocheting group, quilting group, book discussion group, Open Mic night, and other special events coming in the future. Be sure to come see the "Bee Movie" this Saturday.

I have nothing to add to your wonderful list, except to say this is the way I love to "Christmas Shop". This is the way to find the special "individualistic" gift(s) for our special people, instead of the "commercial" ones that everybody finds, anywhere, anytime, for anybody.

I attended one of those concerts at South Jefferson Library. Saw Chris Vadala, a premier jazz saxaphonist there. It was a wonderful outdoor concert...free to public and provided worlds of good will for the library! The MCC could also host community events like this one and have the added benefit of rain or shine facilities.

A note to any other closet musicians, is there any interest in forming a community concert band?
