The Blue Ridge Litter Lookout...known as BRILLO to the older generation....had humble beginnings at the back of Mr.Weber's store in 2004. Our first formal pickup was held in April 2005 and since that time over 897 bags of trash have been collected by our volunteers. This does not include the numerous toilets, construction items, tires, car parts, bowling balls, sex toys, furniture and items far too disgusting to even post.

The MCC has kindly offered the use of their facility for the 2011 planning meeting and hopefully this will encourage more attendance. The meeting will be held on Wednesday February 23 from 7:30-9:30. Our goal is to grow the organization so that more can be done to deter those who deface our mountain community.

We realize schedules are busy and that not everyone can attend so we welcome your ideas and comments. We also want to encourage folks to consider the Adopt-a-Spot program for your local neighborhoods, for you to urge our county officials to hire a Litter Control Officer, and if you know of anyone dumping please report it to the Pollution Prevention and Open Dump Program at 1-800-322-5530. The Adopt-a-Spot program information can be found on the www.dep.wv.gov website under REAP.

Meeting Agenda:
1. Determine and vote on dates for the spring, summer and fall Adopt-a-Highway cleanups;

2. Determine and vote on dates for a BRILLO sponsored Earth Day event;

3. Form a committee to address the use of cameras in dump areas

4. At the discretion of the chairperson of the meeting, additional subjects germane to BRILLO's purpose may be discussed at this meeting
