Neighbor's Great Dane

Here it is 4 am... for about a 1/2 hour now the neighbor's great dane has been outside barking non-stop. I mean non-stop, every second on the second. He has managed to wake me up and both my kids. One of the kids come running in the room because he is scared. Do I appreciate being woken up 1.5 hours prior to when I really have to get up? Not one bit. This is not the first time this has happened. Pissed! This is not a good start to a Monday morning.

I saw some portable air horns at a dollar store recently if you think creatively maybe you could use one to help resolve your problem?

I feel your pain !! My next move is going to be somewheres that I can have a little land (100acres) and put my home in the middle. I just have not gotten use to this city living. All these dang dogs and car alarms, it is an everyday thing.

At least in this case you know who to blame (our late night loud proiblems are with tresspassers... and just about all the other tresspassers seem to know who to blame... but don't seem to feel they them selves are really just part of the problem)...

Do you know the neighbors name and phone number? I'd call their house and let them know their dog is waking everyone up. Also, with the break-ins being reported lately, maybe he saw or heard someone?

Welcome to my world. My neighbors start to get ready for work around 3:30 - 4:00 a.m. every day. Every day, their dogs bark continuously during that time, then when they leave for work, the dogs have been "taught" to chase their vehicle for miles all whil barking continously. I feel for you. I hope your neighbors are cooperative about the barking once notified.

The barking continued for at least another hour... continuous barking. Definitely not the first time. I actually went out on my back deck and yelled at the dog. Didn't help either. I was in a pissed off mood because my son has had strep for 2 weeks, has been up and down every night for the last 2 weeks. He started a new medication over the weekend which finally kicked in, and he was actually sleeping the entire night for the first time in 14 days, and was woken up at 3:30 in the morning, along with the rest of our house. When my kids don't sleep, I don't sleep...I become quite a big B.

Plus the new job, I get it. Just a thought, they may sleep with the TV on or something and simply don't hear the dog barking seems impossible but who knows. I know with my nuisance dogs the bug me during the night but no one else in the house seems to hear a thing.

I believe the issue is that the neighbor, who wakes up about the same time as me, puts the dogs out for bathroom break around that time while she gets ready for work. This isn't a new situation and occurs quite regularly. I believe GG and the kids were only aware of this occurrence because of the lack of sleep, added stress from the job, new school, and various medications for strep and flu.

Not if she was acting like a big B. It's a good thing this didn't happen two nights in a row because you know what comes after B and that will make me act like a complete D.

It is hard when you have to leave early, but also give your dogs their only time out for the day.

That's no excuse however, for leaving a loudly barking dog out for more than about 20 min. at a time at such an hour.

So far... The year is young my friend. Give it time.

Put a high-velocity fan outside their doors. That's what we do, and it allows us to live life like normal, yet not wake them up. I'd imagine it would work for dog barking as well. The louder the fan, the better. They get used to it quickly, and it becomes a nice white noise barrier.

Call the police. It's not legal to let your dog bark continuously outside. Don't tolerate it or adjust YOUR life because you have jerks for neighbors.

This is really a shame, because it's not the dogs fault : ( I understand your frustration.. I know of one person on the mountain that is in the doggy daycare business, it may solve your problem. She is honest & very reliable.. check Miss Boogers; maybe a card, note or neighborly suggestion would help?
