    Default Howdy

Hi everyone. Just found this site and thought I'd say hello. Moved to gate one in January and am quite the fan (okay, minus the fact that I have a car... and there was a lot of snow!).

Seems like a pretty cool community. I've only ventured further down mission a few times. Seems like there's a lot of good stuff as far as the WMAreas. Can anyone suggest good trails by the river and/or somewhere to throw my kayak in? I don't know the area very well and don't want to hit any trouble.

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks!

I'll be waiting until the rivers back to normal (if it ever decides to stop raining this month...). I'm not much for death wishes.

Yes, welcome. There is another WM area further down on Mission past the little grocery store on your left by Mission Park (think swingsets etc). At the intersection of Mission and John Brown Farm Road.

There is also the Friends Wilderness Center further down. http://www.friendswilderness.org/ It has great trails, camping, etc. But they like you to call first.

A warm Wormie welcome Danid! Kayaking is quite nice here. Just please don't go alone and do wear a lifejacket. We've had some river deaths in the last couple years so please be careful. Lots of folks on the forum 'yak, too.

Danid, I sent you a private message. Sounds odd, I know, but it's completely innocent! I swear!

Howdy back, the best place to see the current status/developments on the River Bend Trail, the clearing at the bathhouse, and the loop trails at the Springs is in the FOSS (Friends of Shannondale Springs) section of the forum, under community organizations. When the DNR or I do upgrades/maintenance to the trail it is generally posted there. I'm hoping to get a second mowing down w/in the next week or so and once done I will post there. To reach the River Bend Trail take the right on Shannondale Springs Rd. (just past Grammy's) and follow to the parking lot at end. Walk down to the river and a boat ramp will be to your right. The River Bend Trail is to your left and has a locked gate at its entrance. It goes back @ a mile to the bathhouse, and just past the bathhouse are loop trails to the Springs.

Don't let the eclectic nature of the group hanging out here scare you... We're all pretty much harmless - unless you wander into any of the "Heavy Metal" forums! In which case, you'll likely run into Nanuk and Chutney, who seem to have a love/hate relationship (or is that 'love-to-hate'?).

    Again, welcome and happy trails!
