Go easy on 'em, LZ. Those bagels don't have to be NY-standard if they're not actually made in NY...

As LZ may already know, the Bagels won't be available till tomorrow. Delayed opening

On the one hand, I am sorry there was this delay, since it really kinda sucks for the owners.

But, on the other hand, since I would not have been able to go today to check 'em out, I am personally thrilled.

This place is owned and run by someone Ricky knows - kind of a close friend of a friend. Used to have a place in Germantown, that I understand was all the rage.

Went in there this evening, business is good. Every bagel imaginable, every spread imaginable, plus other baked goods. Talking with the ladies, it seems their baker comes in during the evening hours and bakes all night.

I had an apple filled croissant (sp?) and it was fabulous!

I stopped in today and it was not busy. We have tired some cookies and a cinnamon stick pastry and they were good. I got a few bagels for breakfast too.

Drove by this afternoon and from the outside it really looks nice. I plan on stopping by tomorrow. I really hope this place is a success!

Well, maybe. OTOH, they do claim to be bringing "A Taste Of New York" and are offering "New York Style Bagels".

But, not to worry. Their claim of bagels "Made Here. Made Fresh. Made Right." is very accurate! My wife & I stopped in today and had our first taste of things. In addition to some bagels, Julie offered me a sample of the homemade Whitefish Salad. The bagels were excellent; right on the mark for all things one looks for in a bagel: Proper texture, great flavor, a properly boiled and then baked crust, and toppings done correctly. Most people don't realize that a properly baked New York style bagel has toppings on BOTH sides of the bagel. As to the Whitefish Salad, again, excellent. Much better than any that I've had south of the New Jersey border. Oh, and I was actually speechless when we walked in the shop - and saw a tray of fresh-baked
challah on the counter! Until now, in order for me to get this traditional bread, I had to go all the way to Leesburg. I was told that they are going to bake a trial run of bialies in the next two weeks and that black-and-whites are definitely going to be a staple. Don't tell my wife, but I think I'm in love!

I give them a solid 4.75 stars. The only thing that prevents me from giving them a full 5 stars is their pricing. At a buck a piece for bagels, they're at least 25% more expensive than any of their competition, such as it is. Pricing on sandwiches and other bakery items also seems a tad bit high, but not by too much. Certainly this transplant isn't complaining!

Sorry, had to wipe the drool. $1.00 a bagel isnt bad especially if they're that fresh. After big disappointment trying Wal-mart breads if the new bagels are that good I'll give them $2.00 a bagel!!

I brought home a bag of rugellach last night, intending for them to be a treat for at least a couple of nights. Well, I now need to find something else for the rest of the week! We ate them all in one sitting! I almost hate to say this, but I think they were actually better than my Bubbe used to make!

Turns out I can burn one of there blue berry bagels just as well as bagels bought from somewhere else.
    - Thankfully I was a little more careful with my everything bagel and can say I no longer have to bring bagels home from NJ when passing through or visiting friends.

Bagels are very good. People are very nice. My waistline can accommodate only 1-2 bagels a month. But that's ok. At least they're a worthy treat.

When my parents first moved to Northern Virginia from NJ in 1979, we used to bring three things to them when my ex-wife & I would come down for a visit: Bagels by the dozen from Eli's, a hindquarter of beef from *their* butcher in Shrewsbury and boxes of Swee-Touch-Nee tea from the Shop-Rite.

Mmmmm! Grilled Taylor's ham and cheese sandwich. Our family's favorite! Mom used to have the meat department score and slice the roll so it fried up looking like an Iron Cross.

What I liked about the bagels is not only are they tasty, but they cover the top AND bottom with toppings. My garlic and sesame bagels were well coated and delish!

That's actually one of the things that makes them truly New York style. And, as someone who (briefly) worked in a bagel bakery in NJ will tell you, it's hard to do right!
