    11/14/11
    home invasion/break in
John Brown Farm Road and Wild Dogwood Lane
Items taken: e-500 Olympus camera, telephoto lens, wide angle lens, camera case, extra battery and charger; prescription; some jewelry, bedroom in particular ransacked
Date: Nov. 14, most likely afternoon because I had a cat sitter who visited in the morning and all was well
Entry - back door - pushed hard and door opened, lock did not hold - no deadbolt lock on the door
Police response: Jeff. County Deputy - was polite, did not take many notes - did arrive within a 1/2 hour of my call; immediately said fingerprints not useful in investigation; walked around outside of house; did not go to neighbors that I know of
He has not returned phone calls with questions and information about additional items taken; has not responded to emails or photo of possible truck used by thieves - police follow-up has been abysmal.

Break-in near corner of Wren's View Lane and Moon Ridge Lane. Trooper investigated today and continues to inventory items taken. Won't list them here -- too much information. Used crowbar to gain entry, and yes, there are deadbolts on all doors. Trooper reports that people's tools usually arent' taken: they have serial numbers that can be traced. Most often cash and drugs are the prize. Elderly are most often targeted because they have more drugs around house than most other people. Exterior lights, motion-sensitive, and hidden cameras and security systems with signage at driveway and in windows helps, but if they want in, they'll get in. Keep your eyes open at all hours, even in daylight -- and take down tag number, make and model of vehicles you don't recognize, and ask slow-moving or stopped drivers if they are lost or need help. Chances are they're casing the house. Write down any trucks or "deliveries" that arrive next door. Be a great neighbor, or be another victim.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE ON MOUNTAIN DEW CT.

At 4:02 pm my wife watched an older full size Ford Bronco drive through the neighborhood. He stopped at the neighbors house up the street and walked up to the no trespassing sign. After that they drove down the hill and slowed down for the house just above ours. They apparantly were so interested in his house they drove into the drainage ditch. My wife then tried to get them to stop as they drove by and they refused to stop. JCSO has been called and we are waiting on a deputy to return our phone call. We are not sure what he was up to but I am guessing nothing good.

Neighbor on Moon Ridge was broken into yesterday, Mon. Dec. 12, between 10 and 3. Another neighbor called me today to report that a dark blue/black pickup truck with very loud exhaust system was parked with lights on, watching their house, and driving up and around Wren's View and Moon Ridge area on Sat. night around 9:30. The same truck was seen parked in my driveway yesterday and is suspected of being same vehicle and involved in yesterday's break in. No tag number taken down. If you see a truck that matches this description, get the tag no. and call 304-725-9779 State Police to report where and when you see/saw this truck. If you see suspicious or unfamiliar vehicles in your area, write down the description, make, model and tag no.

Note from Willis: Feel welcome to discuss this or other incidents by starting a discussion thread in the crime forum. Thanks to kristin for the report. If no one reports these incidents we'll all be blissfully unaware of goings-on until we find a knucklehead has violated our space. Lord knows we can't expect help from any other source

There was also a break in on Skyline during the same time frame as the Moonridge break in but I don't know the details.

House on lake got broke into last week during day. Flat screen and meds were taken. Friend of a friend who this happened to, yes I have a friend and no I did not pay for this person to be my friend Just adding a little humor to this awful act.

Note and map from Willis: I have heard about this incident from several sources and consider it valid. I would encourage victims to report crimes as a courtesy to their neighbors.

House at top of Gray Fox was broken into yesterday while no one was home. TV, meds, and possibly other things taken. Forced entry through second of two destroyed windows. LE responded to the homeowner asking the question "Have any other houses been broken into up here?"; "Oh no." LE saying further, "i haven't been up here in six months, except to respond to four wheelers."

the Wife called me just a few minutes ago leaving down Lower Clubhouse - Gate 2. She was behind a Black Lincoln Navigator that seemed to be up to no good. She stated they we going really slow looking up and down every road "checking things out". They pulled to the side of the road and let her pass. I hope they were just lost.... but could be seeing who is or isn't home. WV plate # available if needed. I hope we are just paranoid. - Poppa

A dark colored (blue maybe) smaller but loud dirt bike with 2 smaller ATV's following it rode at very high speeds through our neighborhood over the weekend after ripping South down Mission Rd. They did a good bit of damage to one of our lots, tore up parts of our dam trail and some of our water run off/errosion control areas by creating their own trail through the natual fence we have been creating between our property and WV State Wildlife not so well managed Management Area.

This incident was reported on NoN.

Dark blue and light blue older model Ford Truck F250 - light blue hood, dark blue sides, light blue trim other areas on the truck. Pulled in the vacant lot across from Dawn Lane and John Brown Farm Road across from the mailboxes. Younger male driver, dark coat, knit cap (darkish but with lighter colors sort of tweedy looking). He was backed into the lot, no driveway there, where it was impossible to see the license plate. I eyeballed him and he got out of the truck and walked over to a truck parked in the log cabin's yard and was looking in the truck windows. He did not go up to the house or knock. I went back home.

shortly after, returning from C-town on errand, and saw the same guy standing on Mission Road making a phone call by the DNR area (the one near the river). I glanced up and saw the same truck parked in that lot and had time to make the turn into the lot. The guy immediately stopped the phone call, but did not approach me outright. Rather, he watched me, no friendly or unfriendly wave either time I saw him. And the truck he went to look at in the log cabin's drive has been parked in that same spot forever. No for sale sign on it.

I have the plate # available on request.

There was also wood neatly stacked somehow in the front of the truck bed near the cab - I presume for weight and traction. It is visible above the truck bed near the cab. It looks like the wood is contained somehow in that area and the bed does not appear to be full of wood, just this small area.

Reported because the guy's actions were just weird and a blue truck may have been spotted around recent breakins.

New Victim, Red Fox Rd. My car got broken into last night. Either they had a Slim Jim or were brazen enough to do it from 4-10pm last night. Because I did lock the car before I went to bed. A real shame they didn’t take really much at this point just my hand held radio that I use for work. Though I think they will have a hard time using it because of the secure digital frequency that we use. And good luck finding a charger or changing the frequency. But truly that’s not the real damage that these evildoers did? They took away my peace and sanctuary. So now I will be buying a camera system and all the bells and whistles. But beware you thieves I do not plan to call the authorities they are really a waste of time. I plan to take care of it myself. I do not mean any disrespect to the police here in Jefferson County. I do know they are short staffed and in the recent year their presence is better here in Shannondale. My BIG complaint is the D.A and the judges only giving out they slap on the wrist plea deals on the lenient time behind bars. That truly hurts are community. But come election time my voice will be heard the loudest of them all for real change in Jefferson County.

We just had 3 ATV A-holes in our yard.. if someone saw 3 leave an area by your house and 2 just came back please PM me. One of them had a girl on the back... doing wheeling on Mission rd after tearing up our dam infrastructure. The 3 split into 2 as the 2 left there buddy who went back in the woods. As he came out it sounded like he was yelling for a Sam? Thanks.
