The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a bird walk at the National Conservation Training Center on Saturday, April 28.
The event is free and anyone with an interest is welcome to come along, regardless of their birding skills.However, space is limited and pre-registration before April 23 is required. The Center's 538-acre campus is not normally open to the public, so this is a good opportunity to visit. The campus contains a mix of fields and forestland, and provides good habitat for a rich variety of bird species.Possible species include early spring migrants, including Blue Gray Gnatcatchers, swallows, House Wrens, and Brown Thrashers; possible early arriving warblers; and year round birds such as Bald Eagles, Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks and Great Blue Herons.
Participants should wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, dress appropriately prevailing weather conditions, and bring along water and bug spray. Binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them.
