Jefferson County Photography Club Exhibit at the Old Opera House

The Old Opera House and the Jefferson County Photography Club are pleased to announce a photography exhibit at the Opera House’s Jean Heiler Art Gallery during the two-week run of the play “Fox on the Fairway.” The exhibit runs from May 4 through May 13th, with an opening reception on Friday, May 4, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Many of the fourteen photographers whose works are exhibited will be on hand during the reception. The exhibit will also be available for viewing before each play night and during the play’s intermissions on May 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13. The Jean Heiler Gallery is in the basement of the Old Opera House, where refreshments will be offered on play nights. The public is also welcome to attend the photo exhibit before each play beginning around 7 p.m. and during the week by appointment. The Old Opera House is located in the heart of Charles Town, WV, at 240 N. George St.

The exhibit has no set theme and the club members, whose skills range from intermediate to advanced, will be contributing their best efforts to the show. As a result, visitors will be able to view a diverse collection of interesting and finely crafted photographs, from scenes of remote locations in North Dakota to local landscapes, buildings, and people.

Established in 2008, the Jefferson County Photography Club’s mission is to provide an opportunity for members of the community to share, learn and develop photographic skills, as well as to explore the creative and documentary potential of photography to preserve the rich history and culture of Jefferson County. The club works exclusively with still photography: film, digital, color, and black and white. The club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Charles Town Visitors Center Fire Hall Gallery, 108 N. George Street, in Charles Town. We welcome others interested in photography to attend and become members. Club activities include photo contests, presentations, topic discussions, image critiques, field trips, gallery showings, specialized photography classes, and the continuous exchange of information and ideas. Plans for the future include community photo shoots, historical shoots and youth education programs.

For more information, contact one of the club’s co-presidents, Mary LeMont at 304.724.1511 or [email protected] or Ellen Hardesty at [email protected]
