    Default Leesburg Bypass Accident

Just wanted to give a heads up to the commuters out there, bad accident on Rt 15/ Rt 7 Bypass.
This just came in (2:15 p.m.)on my alert Loudoun Traffic: This is right near the Greenway exit as well.
LEESBURG PD IS INVESTIGATING SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT S KING ST AND THE BYPASS; EB BYPASS AT S KING IS CLOSED; WB BYPASS TRAFFIC IS SLOW; STAY CLEAR OF AREA; EXPECTED 3-4 HRS

So if you can find an alternate route, you may want to.

Great. No point in taking an early bus, maybe by the time I get there it will be cleaned up or the bus drivers will have gotten permission to go a different way.

UPDATE : The Leesburg Police Department is still investigating the car crash on the Route 7 Bypass that is located between the Greenway (Rt. 267) and the South King Street exits. Traffic is expected to be affected severely for the next several hours. We are asking citizens to avoid the area and use alternate routes. As of 3:31 PM; • Route 15 northbound (South King Street) cannot exit onto the Route 7 bypass eastbound. • Eastbound traffic on the Route 7 Bypass is being diverted onto South King Street to avoid the crash investigation area. • The Route 7 Bypass does have one lane of traffic open in the area of the crash and is moving slowly.
One fatality reported, so this could be a long investigation.

The accident actually happened right around 12:30pm just behind my school. We heard all the noise, the fire trucks, ambulance, and the helicopter.

Traffic was an absolute nightmare at 6:00 - fortunately I had a good bus driver who knew Leesburg and was willing to take some side streets through town. Still, we were at least 30 min. behind schedule.

It looks like a terrible accident. That is a difficult area with people trying to get on the tollway or off with very little ramp or merge area.

The comments to the article are on par with those following Journal news stories, I guess Loudoun is really NOT that far from the Panhandle.

    Why is this in Thunderdome????

Traffic coming into Leesburg yesterday was horrific and I can't believe that Leesburg PD or Loudoun County Sheriffs Office did not have exits to the 15/7 bypass blocked off and traffic redirected through town or Dry Mill Run Road. Luckily I know the area quite well and was able to find a route around the backups.

At any rate a life was lost in a terrible accident and my heart goes out to the victims and families. What little bit of inconvenience we experienced on that road will pale in comparison to what they will experience in the days and months to follow.

It was moved to the Thunderdome about 6 hours after the topic was posted in General Chat. The tagline of the Thunderdome is

It was initially left in General Chat until well after the occurrence so it could be viewed by those who have chosen not to display the Heavy Metal category.

The updated article says that the Shepherdstown man died and the comments from relatives and friends seem to confirm that.
