Does anyone know any places in the local area that are giving away free pallets? I am looking to make bins for my compost and figured that pallets would work pretty well for this project.

Try the trucking terminals (Wilson Trucking, Ward Trucking, Conway, etc.) around Winchester. They often have them. Also, Jefferson Cold Storage on Summit Point Rd. sets some out sometimes.
Maybe Gowers or Home Depot?

Our Mountain Community Center has just established a compost pile using some pallets:

Thanks everybody for the ideas I'll call around to a few of the places and see. I thought about Home Depot but I thought that they probably wouldn't give you pallets as they are in the business of selling wood. You never know though.
Willis,
That's pretty much what I was planning on doing with them when I got it all set up. I'll post a pick when I get mine setup.

Wood skids, and pallets. Good for a bon fire. FREE but you have to pick up. Call Sears Hometown Store - Harpers Ferry, WV to arrange a time to get them. Must go ASAP!

That's some kind of a proprietary Facebook link. Can someone translate it for us?

I saw the pallets today out behind the Sears Store on the north side of Rt 340 past the Tractor Supply Co.

I have a number of pallets sitting in the drive if anyone wants them. The wood's nit great, but for something that doesn't have to look pretty or for a bonfire or something like that they'd be fine.
Sears gives them away, it is on their facebook page just call them and tell them you want them.
