    Default RIP Doc Watson

The great gig in the sky <-- pun from Pink Floyd, just added another great one to the band...

I sort of like this part of the write up... makes me wonder if I should have the old skin head tested on my wife's old bacon and day...

"At the age of 5 or 6 he received his first harmonica as a Christmas gift, and at 11 his father made him a fretless banjo with a head made from the skin of a family cat that had just died."

Saw Doc play in DC with the Dillards around 1979. Can't remember who opened for whom, but it was at Desperados. He crossed over to a wider audience after his work on WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN in 1971. He certainly influenced several generations of musicians and motivated me to buy a Martin guitar as well. More at the NY Times tribute/obit.
