I heard Shirley describe this very arrest many months before the lawsuit or the indictment. He described it as a high-speed chase ending with an uncooperative suspect that he had to overpower by main force (and from his description then, I had the impression that he took the guy down one-on-one). Nothing about a gun, a knife, or anything extraordinary.
