tulip poplar tree scale?

So I've noticed underneath many of our tulip poplar trees in and around our house, there has been a sticky sap like substance all over everything, after bit a googling I came across this link http://www.wv.gov/news/Pages/YellowP...sThisYear.aspx

Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what did you do to treat it(if anything?)

Yikes. We have a huge tulip poplar over our back patio, but we haven't noticed anything like this. Yet.

Yes, we have many tulip poplars and they have been particularly sappy this year. You can't leave anything out for long, or else. We also have a bit of an explosion of these tiny little white bugs that are hard to even notice. I think we might have the poplar weevil. Not too much of a problem as long as they don't kill the trees.

Thanks for the info. I haven't even been over on that side this year to take a look. Major house remodel going on but I will definitely check it out.
