Unhappy Power Outage, The Deadly Derecho of 6/29/2012

I noticed that there hasn't been a single new post since the power went out a little bit after 10 last night. Let me be the first lol.

Please post here as soon as you get power, so we know where the power is being restored too and when.

Anyone with no power should at least call Potomac Edison's power outage number and leave the locator information
1 800 255 3443 don't assume someone else did the call. Not all the county is out. It's very mixed

We drove around this morning and there are lines down everywhere.i was told about half of loudoun is out and bloomery road was completely shut earlier. Hats of to the power companies and emergency services for the mess they are dealing with.

It really is a mess. I drove through Frederick, Rockville, and back down to Fairfax today. Frederick by far was the most well off with no signs of power disruption. Fairfax has a lot of down trees and power lines as well. Many major intersections have no lights and no one spotting so it is mostly drive at your own risk. Looks like they got to the lines that were hanging down right past mission road last night that had traffic doing the one lane alternating thing right past mission towards Leesburg.

First Saturday night I drove home and there were more cars leaving Charles town than going! Guess it ain't much fun with no power.

    Hopefully everyone is keeping cool.

If you are going out, make sure to pick up some cash if you normally pay by card. A lot of places networks are down and are only taking cash.

Just got back from Sweet Springs, 3 pumps are down (no reason given). I managed to refill my generator's supply of gas cans however the lines were quite long. They have all the registers up but the traffic was getting a little hairy, lots of short tempers. I also understand that Foodway (Webbers) will be open again tomorrow but cash only due to the power outage.

As of an hour ago they only had 22 phone calls from shannondale residents saying there was a power outage. Do that many people really just think other people are calling in the outage?

All of shannondale in its entirety 1500 homes are without power. This needs to be reported with more phone calls.

We need more squeaky wheels otherwise they won't work on our neighborhoods until last!

Something tells me they are blowing smoke. Having worked in many a call centers the front lines folks never have that kind of access - if they did it would be awesome! The people you talk to are just the yes men/women. PE's page shows how they triage stuff. My guess is that nagging the poor customer service rep with zero power isn't squeaking any wheels, just making someone's already busy day that much more fun!

That being said, I'm guess 4 of those of mine since I have called throughout the day.

I called, they told me they've had 800 calls from our community and to hope for power restoration by end of day Sunday.

Our power has been on the whole time. Just some flickers Friday night. OTOH, our phone (and DSL) were down from early Saturday until 1:30 am Sunday. I think the T-Mobile service is still out, but I think I can at least get that via the wireless network at home. I had to go to Harpers Ferry KOA Saturday morning to get a connection to call about the landline.
