Take a Hike - Enjoy the wonders of nature on a simple summer hike

Program Leader: Lisa Payne is a Friends Wilderness Center board member and member of the Goose Creek Friends Meeting in Lincoln, VA. She grew up in “the woods”, within the Great Swamp area of northern Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Being in wilderness is a homecoming for her. She has hiked many of the trails on and near the FWC and loves introducing the majesty of Creation in its true form.

Meeting Location: Meet at the Niles Cabin at 10:00 a.m. The hike will begin at 10:30 p.m.

Food & Drink: If you want to bring a bagged lunch and beverages to enjoy after the hike you are welcome to do so. Please retain all recyclable materials and take them with you when you leave. Or, you may want to treat yourself to a delicious, nutritious lunch and exquisite dessert provided by Sheila Bach, for an additional $10.00.

Program Context: This hike does not have a theme or specific purpose. Sometimes, it is good to get back into nature and just take it simply: as it is. A hike can offer opportunity for reflection and time for silence. Families are welcome, however we ask that parents are comfortable with their children being in deep woods and will provide supervision.

Program Content: All are welcome. • This hike may involve challenging terrain. Families with small children and those with concerns about balance should note several of the trails are steep and may be rocky. The hike destination will be determined after making sure participants are able to navigate the hike.

•Dress for hiking and wear appropriate shoes or hiking boots. Do not wear sandals;
•Bring water and trail snacks (if preferred).
•We want you to enjoy your time and have pleasant memories of your sojourn with us in the wilderness.

Please do not bring electronic communications devices to use on this hike. Cell phone service is very spotty and could undermine the purpose of the hike for you and for others.
