    Ed was a hard working honest man who really cared about this area. Jefferson county is a better place because of him. He will be missed.

    Ros Burns requested I post this thank you note originally published in the Spirit:




    Memorial services for Edward Lacey Burns, IV, 65 of Harpers Ferry
    were held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 27, 20l2, at Eackles, Spencer &
    Norton Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry, WV.

    Family services were held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 28, 2012 at
    Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Purcellville, VA, with Pastor
    John Unger officiating. He also provided our family communion and
    a blessing of the ground at our home in Harpers Ferry. Pastor Unger
    supported our family and friends throughout difficult days with
    prayer and reflection.

    Ed Burns' family and friends thank the doctors and nurses, friends,
    neighbors and everyone who stood by our family during the tragic
    moments following the loss of our beloved Ed, either through their
    physical presence or with phone calls, e-mails, texts, letters and

    compassionate thinking. We express our kindest thanks to all.

    Specifically, to the emergency responders, Harpers Ferry National
    Park Police, Jefferson Memorial Hospital and Dr. Carlos Tonatore,
    Department of Neurology, Georgetown University Hospital for their
    timely and professional response. To Colette Martin and Mike
    George who were first on the scene and Joe and Carol Knott who
    provided comfort at the hospital.

    Sincere thanks to Mr. Alan Norton and staff for kindness, caring, and
    compassion in making final arrangements and for the beautiful
    Family Bible presented in memory of Ed.

    To LifeNet Health for fulfilling Ed's final wish to be a tissue donor.

    Thank you to his friend and "brother" Jerry Piepioria, Deputy Grand
    Master of the Maryland Masonic Order, for his welcome and support,
    and Logan Lodge No. 25 A. F. & A. M. in Harpers Ferry for
    providing ushers and attendants at the memorial service.

    A sincere thank you to the Harpers Ferry/Bolivar District Veterans
    and active duty members for presentation of Military Honors to
    include Wayne Hough, Wayne Smallwood, Garfield Grey, Bob Bauer,
    Scotty Johnson, Frank Longerbeam, Bill Coleman, Cecil Tucker,
    Gary Chrisman, Staff Sgt. Jesse Byrd, Spc. Joshua Mullins, and Spc.
    Jason Jones.

    Special thanks for the motorcycle escort provided by Don Bums, Rob
    McGlaun and Dawn McGlaun and to Goddaughter Amanda Arndt,
    Doug Harding and John Maxey for coordinating the music aud
    electronic remembrance presentation. To Barbara Arndt and Diane
    Rutledge for help developing and displaying the visitation memorials.

    Our appreciation for heartfelt testimonials goes to Dane Rutledge,
    Reva Mickey, Meredith Rutledge, Ronda Lehman, Robert and
    Virginia Graf, Robbie Timberlake, Kate Hanni and Jennifer Shirkani.

    We thank everyone who contributed to Ed's favorite organizations
    and to everyone who sent flowers and food to the family and all the
    dinner Rob Martin and Gail Katz cooked.

    To the Ebenezer United Methodist Church for their kindness and
    sharing of their facilities, Layman and guitar soloist Jeff Dunson,
    pianist Mary Weshinsky, piano soloist granddaughter Alexa Burns,
    and violin soloist niece Amelia Rutledge.

    Thank you for the special family recepion, outstanding food and
    service provided by Ann Smith of The Anvil in Bolivar, WV. It was
    enjoyed by many of Ed's closest relatives and friends.

    Ed's family and I sincerely thank everyone for their loving kindness
    during this difficult time. We are forever grateful. May the Lord bless
    you and keep you safe.
