Default Road Work after the Storm (Derecho-6/29/12)

Shadowplay and LFE helped clear the emergency access road leading back to the Springs' ruins today. Several trees fell victim to the short burst of high winds. I worked up a sweat watching them lol

The largest of the trees was a little past the big boulder

LFE made short work of that rascal

If you haven't visited our Shannondale Springs area, you're REALLY missing something special. History and Nature's bounty abound. Shadowplay will be manicuring the path back to the ruins in a few weeks, but the way is wide open for hikers now. I have a standing invitation on the table to give a tour of the old resort's site (with transportation provided for those unable to hike in) if enough interest is shown.
Shadowplay would be delighted to hear from those who might want to help him maintain the grounds.
    Kudos to LFE and SP!

I wasn't the only one with a running chainsaw back there.... and compared to all the grass cutting, some trail clearing is the easy part!

That one tree looked like a good ATV blocker.

For some reason, that area does not seem to get tore up by the ATV's like the old girls camp area by us does.
    - Maybe that will change once a store opens up on that side of mission????

It likely has to do with the packed down roadway there. It mostly rests on solid rock, so it's not possible for ATVs to leave a lot of marks. Also it's more popular, and more people means less illegal ATV access. I'd rather ride where I wasn't likely to run into anyone.

I agree though - a shame we couldn't have just taken it down and blocked the other WMA with it. But of course that's silly as these routes really are needed by emergency response personnel.
