Default Crown to the BRILLO Throne

Carl has kindly offered to take on the job of keeping BRILLO up and running. I feel that I have not been giving BRILLO the attention that it needs and it's time to get some new blood and thinking into the group. BRILLO needs to get back to doing some of the work with the school, etc that we did in our early years.

Thanks to all of you who have done so much to help me in the past and participated in both our formal and ad hoc cleanups.

Carl, I'll get with you in the near future and give you the information on how to report cleanups to the state and the rules for our Adopt-a-Highway and Adopt-a-Spots.

Thanks again for taking over the crown to the throne!

    I'll enthusiastically echo KatA's sentiments.

Carl, BRILLO (BLUE RIDGE LITTER LOOK OUT - Tradename - effective 4/26/2007) is a dba of Shannondale and Beyond Inc. and as such has a 501c3 nonprofit designation. That provides the cachet to seek tax deductible donations and grants if you wish to pursue them.

I have agreed to take over Brillo so we can continue to do the trash pick-ups that help keep our mountain community clean. I am doing this on an interim bias just to keep the organization going until a good full term leader can be found. I also want to let all know that I am also a board member of the Blue Ridge Watershed Coalition. The BRWC is my main priority so I cannot do anything with Brillo that will conflict with my interests with the BRWC. (I just want to be honest with the community before I start my work with Brillo.) I am going need help from the community in order run this organization. There is no way I can do this myself.
I guess the next step is to schedule a meeting to formulate a plan for the fall trash pick-up.

    Please add your comments.

    Carl,
Hopefully you can generate some new help from the community. In the past, one of the big problems with the organization is that we have had to rely on the same folks and it does tend to burn folks out...especially if you want to do anything in addition to the required trash pickups.

    Default BRILLO Celebrates 7 Years

I'll add my vote to keep the effort alive. After all I was there at the beginning:
    in Weber's store.

If anyone is curious about BRILLO or feels a twinge of nostalgia, you can visit past accomplishments

There are possibilities for "fun" associated with litter.

Thanks for mentioning burn out, because I think that's what I'm suffering. I hate that people throw their trash around. But I also hate to pick up other people's trash.

Hopefully everyone will do what they can to support Carl and keep BRILLO alive! With the help of so many great folks we managed to pull off some really good work in the community....art contests and presentations by the DNR to our local school children.....the end to our litter problem begins with our children!

There is no question or argument about that. However, given the difficulty of securing grants for the purpose it becomes an impossible task.
