    Willis,
Will you also take anything about the Victim's Benefit off of S&B as well. We have decided not to hold it. With the total lack of support from this community for Recro Fest last Saturday, I simply can not justify having Wal Mart give us over $1,000 in food donations to hold an event that would not be supported by the folks here this side of the Shenandoah. Instead I'll take the cash donation they have offered to the teen club to support The Shack.
    Thanks. Melinda

    DATE: May 12th
    TIME: 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
    PLACE: Mountain Community Center
MENU: Spaghetti, Garlic Bread, Salad, Coffee, Tea, Water and Iced Tea

The Shack Teen Club which is a joint venture of St. Andrew's On-the-Mount and FOCUS, are hold a Victim's Benefit. It will be an all you can eat spaghetti dinner and silent auction. The proceeds of this benefit will be given equally to Cpl. Ronald Fletcher and the children who lost their father during this tragic event last February. We requested and have received permission from everyone involved to hold this benefit. Wal Mart and Martin's are providing all of the supplies/food we need for this event; and we are seeking donations for the silent auction from local businesses and artists and support from other local businesses. If you would like to volunteer in any capacity, please call Melinda Keuroglian at 728-2174.

We hope to see you there! Thank you for your anticipated support.

Please don't take this the wrong way Trollibear, but your continued attempts to guilt-trip the rest of us into giving time and money to your projects and your acting as if you and you alone own the "community" center is really starting to get annoying.

So if I read this right, Wal-Mart donated or offered funds to the Ron Fletcher benefit and one or two people just decided to hijack those funds for their pet project, this alleged "teen shack"? I really hope that I'm reading that wrong and someone will clarify it, because I'll be on the phone to Wal-Mart tomorrow to let them know that they got gulled into funding something other than what they gave the money for. I'll be letting the Sheriff's Department know as well.

Grandma K or Trollibear, please explain this ASAP. I for one do not approve and didn't see any attempt by either of you to put this up for discussion.

Seriously? There is a huge difference between a Recro Fest and a spaghetti dinner. People with younger children would find a spaghetti dinner a much more "fun for all ages" thing to do.

I just don't see why anyone would expect large amounts of participation on something that is still in the developing stages. The Teen Shack is a very specific thing and many parents with younger children will not have an interest in taking their children to some events that are more geared towards older children.

I just saw the posting for the dinner this morning, now all of a sudden there is a lack of interest? I thought the spaghetti dinner sounded good. I would've gladly made a donation to have one night we wouldn't have had to cook dinner and spaghetti is one of Taylor's absolute favorite things to eat! This is something I could bring my little ones to. I know for a fact, I couldn't have brought my baby to a concert. He gets upset if the TV is up too loud.

    Exclamation Re: Victim's Benefit

Nanuk - Wal-Mart was to give THE SHACK a certain LARGE sum of money. It was decided due to lack of participation from Sat.'s event, that the money for the SHACK would be donated to Ron and the children.
THIS is what happens when TEENS & PARENTS don't get INVOLVED in more than just the FUN.
I hope this clears up any misconception.
TRUST me, the $ going to Ron and the children WELL EXCEEDS the amount that would've been made by a sketti dinner.

As far as going off on Trolli - NO ONE OWNS THE COMMUNITY CENTER OTHER THAN THE RESIDENTS OF THIS MOUNTAIN. For anyone to think differently, they need to step back. Just because a LOT of us support the MCC, and the events that go on there, others that aren't willing or can't shouldn't EVER think otherwise.

    Str1ker.

I'm sorry that your event didn't come off the other day--I know how hard that you personally worked on it--but that doesn't mean that no one in this community will ever support ANY event. The thing is that you've got to give the people here what THEY want and apparently I was not the only one who really doesn't get turned on by the thought of a bunch of black-clad grunge kids playing the type of music that appeals mainly to them exclusively. I think that if you'd put something together that the average LOCAL citizen wanted to see and advertised it properly (I didn't see much of that for your event), you'd have packed the place. In sum, it sucks when an event that you worked hard on fails to come off--I've been there more than once when I used to organize events professionally--but you can't just blame all the people who live nearby for not coming if you didn't offer something that they wanted and told them about it in advance. (And I don't mean just a few postings here and a few non-specific hand-made signs by the road.)

Now as to Trolli, I won't belabor her excessively because she's not here right now, but I've had about two too many negative posts from her where she insinuates that we all suck as a community since we didn't flood your event. I also don't appreciate her apparently arbitrarily closing the community center--OUR community center, as you've said--to any other events just because we didn't all rush to this one. If she can't handle a little failure then she needs to turn those building keys over to someone a little more stable and just step back.

Bottom line, it's not that we don't like kids or care about the community. That's not true and you know it and Trolli knows it. We just didn't care for this particular type of event and/or we didn't get the word. Heck I didn't even know what you guys were doing until the morning of the event when I saw you there and went over to talk to you. Several others present at the litter pick-up did not, either. That tells me that you guys probably didn't do enough advertising. I'm not trying to bash you for that--you learn as you go--but this petulant act of Trolli's where she keeps denigrating all of us for that is more than a little grating. If as you say it's NOT directed at those of us with kids, then she needs to specify that.

TRUST Me dude... The $ donated by WalMart's originally for the Shack is ALL going to Ron and the kids.

As for the Recro-Fest, it's not directed to the community as a whole as much as it is to the PARENTS and TEENS that like the events, but DON'T work to reap the bennies, as I stated in the Recro-Fest thread.

As far as advertising, it was known by the teens, it was fully covered on MySpace, and every possible place. The road signs were basically for anyone needing to find the exact location.

We also had Shep-Fest that weekend, which worked against us.

Advertising - Yup, know ALLLLLL about that! LOLOLOLOL

As far as Trolli - She and Grim work their ASSES off behind the scenes more than ANY of you can imagine. If anything, people should be THANKING them for the fact that certain things get done, that NO ONE ELSE wants to do. Not that they can't, but they WONT do.

Trolli, unlike a lot of us, (sometimes me included), speaks her mind, no drama, no b.s., and sometimes people just don't "get it", or they take it personally. (This aint towards you Nanners, cos I know you can tell the difference).

HOWEVER, IF you feel that something someone says hits a chord in your gut - then maybe you need to take a 2nd look at yourself. If you feel genuinely guilty, or even the slightest bit pissed, there's prolly a reason. And that reason might just be brought up by someone else's words. Not specifically the person typing it, or what they said, or how they say it, just the fact that something strikes a chord in you to gain that type of reaction - seriously, step back a fwe, walk away, and really think about why you feel that way.

Nothing is ever said to HURT anyone. It's said to make people THINK.

And another thing... It's WASN'T just one or 2 people that decided the Victim's Benefit Dinner be cancelled. There are other reasons that are of a PERSONAL nature, that DO NOT WARRANT explanation here, or anywhere else for that matter. Enough said on that. But it was made by SERVERAL people.

Honestly, the amount that is being given will definitely outweigh the amount we could make at any dinner event.

I know what you're talking about now and in consideration I have withdrawn some of my objection as it pertains to that matter. And I was not aware that there was anyone other than Trolli and GK making the call based solely upon what I've read here. Coming as it did on the heels of all of the "this community sucks!" posts, it appeared retaliatory and punitive and I understand now that such is not entirely true.

Thats alright baby. We can make spaghetti at our house and if we're feeling charitable we can donate $10.00/ea to the Sheriffs Office. That way Taylor gets some sketti and we feel better about ourselves for helping out a local hero. Everyone wins except the community..... Unless they want to come over for some sketti too........ We better get more forks...........

    Thumbs up Re: Victim's Benefit

I'd like to post my support of the fundraiser dinner!

I think the ol' man (dad, that is!) would enjoy a night out on the town...or at least down Mission Road .

Since moving here I've filled Dad in regarding Ofc. Fletcher, and he's taken an interest in him since he used to volunteer with the police force down in NC.

How's that Uncool? My wife wants some sketti so I said I'd make her some sketti. Might even make some garlic bread too. Then I invited all of our neighbors over if they'd like to join us as well and make a donation to a local hero. Then I made a mental note that I needed to buy more forks.

    You know what? Forget it.

BECAUSE OF THE RECENT NEGATIVE REACTION BY THE MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM THE SKETTI DINNER/FUND RAISER AT MY HOUSE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

However the taco night fund raiser to support illegal immigrant awareness and legislation reforms will still be held at Siete O'Clocko on Cinco de Mayo..... and the fried chicken dinner fund raiser to support the NAACP and the United Negro College Fund will still be on the fifteempth at noon. (People will probably start showing up around six.....)

Did I really forget the gays City? I figured they didn't need one considering their DINK lifestyle.

I did, however, forget the indians. And by indians I am referring to the Hiya-Hiya-Hiya kind not the "Tank you com again" ones. So I'll be sponsoring a Casino night sometime in June with all proceeds going to the American Indian Education Foundation and Jack Daniels distillery. As usual this will be a bring your own peace pipe event.

The reason I said it was uncool, was because of the way it was stated. Some things don't need to be followed by a seemingly obvious slam towards GK & T in regard to cancelling the dinner.
Brandy voiced her concerns, which was great

Then Nanners and I had our li'l Q&A, everything was pretty much done, then you brought it right back into the ring w/ your comment.

THAT is what was uncool. To then make a follow-up statement, saying it was meant any other way, is uncool as well... I'm pretty sure we all know how you meant it originally. The way I took it, was kinda like, "Fine, no dinner, screw you guys, and we'll do our own thing, yada yada yada..."
If ya didn't mean it that way, then it's my bad for reading it as such, but I know I'm not the only one here that saw it that way...

    ANYWAY....

I can't make the taco or fried chicken event, but I'm totally down w/ the indian one Gotta leave the peace pipe at home tho... However, a good Jack & Coke would do me nicely right about now....
Can ya add a celtic type festival? It's that time of year - This Sat's the SoMD one YAAY!

And City - you know I dig wicked cool bangin' fashion & hairstyles... Shh tell no one - it's a seeeecret heh
