Default Thinking outside of the box........

With all of the things going on in Shannondale (and beyond), we are tending to do nothing but complain on here. I just wanted to take a moment and say some positive things. I wake up every morning and hear the river flowing. I go outside and see the stars shining and the beauty of nature. I know that my children are safe and warm in their beds. And I know that I have neighbors around me that love this area as much as I do. That makes my day so much easier and makes me want to get home as soon as I can after a 14 hour day. So next time you are frustrated or stressed, go outside, look up at the stars, feel the breeze on your face, smell the clean air and know that you are not alone and everything that is wrong can be right if you are just patient enough. I worked very hard to be where I am and can't even begin to tell you in a few words how much this place means to me and why. I just hope that everyone can find that inner peace like I finally have. Thanks for reading my mushy post and thanks for being there. [;^)]

I can _see_ both the river on one side and the mountain on the other, in winter, but I can't hear much.

Don't be misled by the appearance that everyone's complaining; that's just the nature of a local public forum. People don't take the effort to post to say everything's fine and nothing's happening. Note that in fact there was a very long stretch recently with few or no posts - I saw this as a great sign that the whole mountain was quite happy!

Theres no place like the mountian. You are so right it can make your problems just disappear for a little while there has been many times where I felt like I couldnt go on and everythingis happening so wrong all I have to do is go set in my porch for a few minutes and I can think so much clearer and things seems so much better just smelling the fresh air and watching the creatures in the wild. Something about the mountian to me is magical at least to me it is

OH so well said - I also love the mountain and it's quietness feeling and smell. I love to drive home after work and hear nothing but the woods and trees. Isn't it wonderful. We all have something to be thankful for. Let's all work together at keeping our wonderful neighborhood safe, clean and happy because we all live here because we love it.

Speaking about wood spirits and signs that the whole mountain is happy, we happened to come across a place that was selling a variety of interesting things a while ago and added one to our collection. Since then I've also seen them offered a few places on-line.

Smiley, kissy, tree faces, here, http://www.butterbeantrading.com/yhs...34/03a163.html or here http://www2.yardiac.com/show_category.asp?category=1374 are examples. (I have no association with these web pages, or companies.) These can be an interesting thing to see either sitting on your porch or looking through a window. Also an interesting idea as a gift suggestion .

(Also seemed to fit the title of 'outside the box'.)

Am glad to see the positive comments about the old Dale.
I grew up on the mountain and dearly miss it. My pop was
in the Air Force and we lived alot of places. But when someone
asks me where I'm from, or where's Home; I gladly respond
    with Shannondale, WVA.
I live in Northern California (since '88), and would gladly move
back to that little patch of Earth.
I do remember the air was fresher there than anywhere I've been.
Take a big gulp of that crisp Winter cold for me.
It was sunny and 70, 'til the fog set in this afternoon (of course the
last week has been up to 50's daytime and Rainy.)
    My best to you all.
