    Default Yoga Classes

It is pleasure to meet ya all! I am new to Shannondale and Beyond, but not to Shannondale. I have been living here and commuting to D.C. for fifteen years. It is a pleasure to not only sleep here but to enjoy living here! I very much appreciate the helpfulness Shannondale and Beyond offers. The more information and involvement - the higher the quality of life. I am looking forward to being a greater source of positive action in our beautiful community and to making some new friends. I love to spend time in the backcountry: hiking, backpacking, boating, and mountain biking; lounging on the porch or deck; working at For the Love of Children Outdoor Education Center; and teaching Integral Yoga.

Welcome welcome! Hey, if we have enough interest, maybe you could teach a yoga class here on the mountain...I'm in!

Lightbulb Do I See a Potential Volunteer?

My projects: Virtual tours of the AT and the Shenandoah from Rt7 to Harpers Ferry are a couple of my pipe dreams. Then there's FOSS. Those tours would hopefully include areas at Rolling Ridge. Welcome to the Blue Ridge's virtual zoo.

Default Thank you very much for the Welcome! Yoga Classes

I hope to help with the BRILLO party (I have experience) and possibly attend the March Gourmet Club. I am looking forward to meeting members of Shannondale and Beyond.

Have you wanted to take Yoga classes but felt you didn’t have the time, there were no convenient classes, poses were too difficult, or that you could not afford the expense?

Here is a solution: Host an Integral Hatha Level I Yoga Class in Your Home.

You choose the date, time, and invite list. I will come to your house and give a ninety minute Integral Yoga class to you free if you can secure at least three other attendees. It is requested attendees contribute $10 each to offset traveling expenses.

Please let me know if anyone is interested in hosting or attending an Integral Hatha Level I Yoga class.

Integral Yoga: Many schools of Yoga focus mainly on Hatha Yoga as a physical discipline. In the Integral Yoga approach to Hatha Yoga the emphasis is on both the physical benefits of the postures, and the mental state of calm and focus that these postures can invoke. The mind and body become united. Deep relaxation, meditation, pranayama, and chanting are included to make sure that all aspects of the person are uplifted and harmonized. This approach is ideal for reducing stress. Pranayama, the breathing practices are proven to reduce stress and increase mental calm.

Integral Yoga also teaches the importance of diet and lifestyle. The different practices take into consideration all the aspects of an individual: physical emotional, mental, intellectual, and social. A student who really wants to progress towards a happy, healthy, and spiritual life can eventually learn a complete system for personal development.

Integral Yoga instructors are certified through a training system that has been carefully developed for over 40 years. The focus of the training is to ensure that the instructors teach the practices taught by Sri Swami Satchidananda.

Dhyana, Weldome to the forum! I'd be interested in learning yoga, as well. I don't have the room here for 4 people....but I'd certainly participate if someone wants to host it. Sounds nifty.

    Welcome!

I would be interested in the yoga classes also, but I'm unsure if 4 of us would fit in any room of my house either. We'd each end up with a dog and/or cat in our face!

    Health Yoga Class

Great minds think alike. I will contact Parks and Rec on Monday to see about availability. Does anyone have a contact there? Otherwise I will call Bryn Snow. On the Parks and Rec web site section titled 'wellness' http://www.jcprc.org/id23.html it appears there is an initiative to support classes such as yoga.

I haven't done yoga in forever (aside from fun animal yoga with the boys). I'm totally into coming and making a fool of myself in front of all my closest friends

I don't even know if I could do yoga. The JCPRC contact might be Brian Snow, he is recreation specialist.

Lar, yoga may seem intimidating, but they don't start you out expecting you to bend into a pretzel. It's all about stretching and breathing, and if there's a pose you can't do, you can modify it into something you can.

    I'm in!

About 5 years ago I was all about the yoga. I was lifting a lot, and wanted to take yoga for the good stretching. Anyway, I was all pumped about the first class, I even woke up really early for it. About halfway through the class, the instructor called me out--"I thought you would be more flexible than that". Well, I am not. I didn't go back.

I would also be in for a Yoga Class :-)

When it warms up we could do yoga outdoors...
