Fred Paul Badin, 86, of Round Hill, a retired US Army Major, passed away on August 13 at NOVA Long Term Care in Leesburg.
Mr. Badin was born on April 29, 1921 in Vienna, Austria and moved to Buffalo, NY in 1926. As a decorated war veteran of over 20 years Mr. Badin served with distinction in World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Badin was the recipient of many distinguished medals including the Bronze Star Medal, Soldiers Medal, Army Commendation Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World Ware II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He retired from active military service in 1960.
After retiring from military service, Mr. Badin went to work for IBM where he was the security manager for the Federal Systems Division. He retired from IBM after 24 years of service in 1984.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18 at the Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg at 5:00 p.m. Internment with Full Military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on October 29.
Mr. Badin is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary H. Woernley Badin, one son, Charles F. Badin of Round Hill, and two daughters, Karen Walker of Waterford, and Nancy Helmke of Hamilton. In addition he is survived by his sister, Valerie Berger of Vienna Austria, 7 grandchildren, Stephen Badin of Leesburg, Laura Brazelton of Annapolis, MD, Donnie Walker of Waterford, Michael Helmke of Hamilton, James Badin of Front Royal, Joey Walker of Waterford, and Nicole Helmke of Arlington and 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the National Down Syndrome Society.
